AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen College women's tennis team had a tough day of competition as they dropped a 9-0 decision to East Coast Conference rival University of District of Columbia.
The Firebirds, who were ranked third in the ECC preseason poll, walked away with the win in today's contest., With this loss, the Wildcats will fall to an even 3-3 record while dropping to 1-3 in conference play.
Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo) fell to Dominika Hadnadova 6-1 and 6-3 in single competition.
Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) dropped a pair to Alena Skobkina 6-0 and 6-4 while
Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda fell to Peerada Looraseewan 6-1 and 6-0.
Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) was defeated by Zoe Mall 6-1 and 6-1 while
Delaney Fragale (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) fell to Laura Dimante 6-0 and 6-0.
Sarah Crissy (Freedom, N.Y./Fillmore Central) was the last Wildcat to compete in a singles competition against Laura Rojas 6-2 and 6-0,
Hollins and Scanlan were teammates during the first doubles competition of the day but fell 8-5 to Skobkina and Hadnadova. Robins and Ringler competed together against Looraseewan and Mall, but fell 8-3. Fragale and
Aman Shamaa (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) were partners to finish the doubles competition on the day against Laura Rojas and Laura Dimante but fell 8-1.
Daemen will return to action as they host Clarion University on Sunday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m. at Ellicott Tennis Court in a nonconference competition.
