Wildcats' Winning Streak Halted At Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Daemen College women's tennis team saw its modest two-match winning streak go by the wayside today after suffering a 9-0 defeat to home-standing University of Findlay in non-conference action at the Armstrong Sports Complex.

Daemen, which had knocked off Cedarville University (6-3) and Houghton College (9-0) in recent days, falls to 4-7 on the season.  The loss marked the first time that the Wildcats have been shutout this season.  Five of Daemen's seven losses have come by three points or less this year.

Findlay, an affiliate of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, improved to 2-7 on the year, and snapped a three-match skid with the win today.

The host Oilers opened up a 3-0 lead after sweeping through doubles play.  Bidding for their third straight win in first doubles, Daemen's top duo of seniors Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo) and Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) came up just short today, falling to UF's Tijana Raicevic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Sheridan McLean (Waverly, Ohio) 8-5.  Matina Matic (Novi, Serbia) and Mikaela Hindenlang (Miamisburg, Ohio) went through unscathed (8-0) in second doubles over DC's Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda).  And, freshmen Kristi McDonald (Huntertown, Ind.) and Kaylee Davis (Spencerville, Ohio) were 8-6 winners in third doubles over the Wildcat tandem of Delaney Fragale (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) and Morgan Park (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg).

Daemen couldn't stop the bleeding as play switched to singles action.  The Oilers swept through the six singles matchups to secure the shutout.  Hollins, Scanlan, Ringler and Robins all saw their individual two-match singles winning streaks come to an end.  Hollins fell 2-6, 2-6 in first singles to Matic, a second-team All-GLIAC selection last season.  Scanlan's match was the only one to go to three sets as she fell 6-3, 2-6, 3-10 to Raicevic who was an honorable mention All-GLIAC honoree last year.

Daemen returns to non-conference action tomorrow by facing GLIAC foe Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.
