Women's Tennis Blanks Molloy

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team earned its first East Coast Conference victory of the season tonight, blanking Molloy College 9-0 at Miller Tennis Center.

With the win, Daemen improves to 6-9 overall and 1-4 in the league.  The Wildcats have now won two straight and four of their last seven outings, dating back to a 6-3 defeat of non-conference foe Cedarville University on October 7.  It was also Daemen's third straight win in the all-time series with Molloy, improving to 3-2 against the Lions.

Molloy dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in the league.  It was the Lions' 26th straight loss in matches against NCAA Division II opponents.

Daemen opened things up by sweeping through doubles play tonight.  Seniors Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo) and Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) set the tone with an 8-4 victory in first doubles over MC's Alyssa Migliorini (North Haven, Conn.) and Montaine Le Goupil-Maier (Oceanside, N.Y.).  The Daemen duo has now won two straight doubles matches to move to an even 5-5 on the season, leading the team in wins as a pair.

Teaming together for the first time this season, Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Shaylah Iverson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Naples) scored a tight 9-7 win in second doubles over Danielle Bloecker (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Megan Scali (Garrison, N.Y.).  Daemen's Delaney Fragale (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) and Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) completed the doubles sweep with their 8-3 win over Samantha Bloecker (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Christie Catterson (Amityville, N.Y.) in third doubles.

The points kept rolling in during singles play as the Wildcats secured their second whitewash of the season.  Hollins, Scanlan, Ringler, Robins and Iverson all earned their second points of the night, while sophomore Morgan Park (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) joined in with her win in sixth singles (6-3, 6-4) over Tiffany Nagasawa (Lynbrook, N.Y.).

Daemen jumps back into conference play with a dual-match vs. Queens College on Saturday, October 22 in the Wildcats' penultimate contest of the fall season.
