For Communications Women's Tennis Swept By Unbeaten Queens AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team couldn't knock Queens College from the ranks of the unbeaten today, falling 5-0 in an East Coast Conference dual-match which was shortened and played to decision due to temperatures below 50 degrees at the Ellicott Tennis Courts. The loss snaps Daemen's modest two-match winning streak.  The Wildcats drop to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in league play, while the visiting QC Knights improved to 8-0 overall, including a 6-0 mark in ECC matches. The Knights picked up points with wins in all three doubles matchups.  Senior Angelika Sobiecka (Mlawa, Poland), a second-team All-ECC pick last season, teamed with junior Emy Alplund (Engelberg, Switzerland) to down DC seniors Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo) and Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) 8-3 in the top spot. Line Sorsdahl Aasen (Bergen, Norway) and Laura Ortega Jover (Cuenca, Spain) were 8-2 winners in second doubles over Daemen's Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Shaylah Iverson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Naples) who were paired together for the second straight match.  And, in third doubles, it was Ruth Artaza Martin (Bilbao, Spain) and Darya Kolesnichenko (Kiev Oblast, Ukraine) emerging unscathed (8-0) against Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Delaney Fragale (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport). In singles play, Queens picked up the requisite two points to closeout the match as Sobiecka and Alplund won in third and fourth singles, respectively.  Matches at first, second, fifth and sixth singles went unfinished. The win sets up a potential clash of unbeatens on Monday as Queens is set to take on league favorite N.Y. Institute of Technology (8-0, 5-0 ECC).  But before that can happen, Daemen takes their shot at the Bears tomorrow (October 23) in a 10 a.m. dual-match back at the Ellicott Tennis Courts.  The match will mark the conclusion of Daemen's fall season.
