For Communications League Favorite NYIT Tops Daemen In Fall Finale AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team concluded the fall portion of their 2016-17 season today with a 9-0 loss to East Coast Conference favorite N.Y. Institute of Technology. NYIT, the four-time defending ECC champs, kept their dual-match record unblemished, both in league play (6-0) and overall (9-0).  The Bears have advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament in each of the last four seasons. Daemen ends the fall season at 6-11 overall and 1-6 in ECC play. The tightest matchup of the day came in first doubles where the Bears' Karolina Pondusova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Gabriela Siembab (Chrzanow, Poland) emerged with an 8-6 win over Daemen seniors Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo) and Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian). Melanie Benyadi (St. Etienne, France) and Lena Dimmer (Wallendorf-Pont, Luxembourg) in second doubles, and Antonella Lopez (Cortes, Honduras) and Paulina Velasquez (Queens, N.Y.) in third doubles, scored matching 8-0 wins to help the Bears jump out to 3-0 lead. The Bears went on to sweep all six singles matchups as well.  Dimmer, the ECC Preseason Player of the Year was a 6-2-, 6-0 winner in the top spot over Hollins.  Benyadi and Velasquez, both all-league picks last season, were winners today as well. Daemen's 2016-17 season will continue in February.  The full spring semester schedule will be announced at a later date.
