For Communications Wildcats Snap Slide With Win Over Cedarville Daemen Picks Up Win Over 2015-16 GMAC Tournament Finalist AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College picked up an impressive win in non-conference women's tennis action tonight, defeating Cedarville University 6-3 at the Ellicott Tennis Courts. The win snaps a four-match slide for the host Wildcats as they improve to 3-6 on the season.  Seven of Daemen's nine matches this season have been decided by three points or fewer as the Wildcats earned their second such victory of the season today. Cedarville, which advanced to the finals of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament last season, falls to 4-3 this year after suffering their second straight defeat on a two-day tour of Western New York.  The Yellow Jackets dropped a 6-3 decision yesterday to Roberts Wesleyan College as well. Seniors Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo) and Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) set the tone for the Wildcats today.  The duo, pairing together in doubles play for the first time since September 16, downed CU's Lauren Jackson (Vandalia, Ohio) and Kristen Heydt (Mason, Ohio) in first doubles 8-4, before each posting singles wins as well. The Wildcats also picked up a point in doubles play from junior Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda).  The former high school teammates paired together for just the second time this season to oust CU's Deanna Whalen (Oxford, Ohio) and Rosie Thompson (Xenia, Ohio) 8-2 in second doubles. CU's Halie Hardwick (Yorktown, Ind.) and Janelle English (Morgantown, W. Va.) helped the guests avoid a doubles sweep by besting Shaylah Iverson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Naples) and Delaney Fragale (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport). At the top of the singles lineup, Hollins and Scanlan came through again.  Hollins took down Jackson, the 2015-16 GMAC Player of the Year, with relative ease, dropping just four total sets (6-2, 6-2) in first singles.  Scanlan breezed through her second singles match with Hardwick, winning 6-1, 6-1. Ringler and Robins each picked up their second points of the day with singles wins of their own.  Ringler defeated Heydt in third singles (6-2, 6-1), while Robins came out on top against Thompson in the most competitive matchup of the night (7-6, 6-4). That was enough for the Wildcats to earn the dual-match victory, their first since September 17 vs. Philadelphia University (5-4). The individual wins tonight allowed Scanlan to increase her program record totals in both singles and doubles play.  She's now posted 40 singles wins and 39 doubles wins over her four-year career.  She leads the team with a 7-4 singles record this season. Daemen looks to make it two wins in a row when they visit Division III Houghton College for another non-conference dual-match tomorrow (Saturday, October 8).  The Wildcats are 3-0 all-time against the Highlanders.
