NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Long distance runners
Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and
Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst), and middle distance runner
Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) spurred the Daemen College women's outdoor track and field team to a 10th place finish out of 26 competing teams at today's Westminster Invitational held at Burry Stadium. The trio combined for 23 of Daemen's 30 points in the final team standings. Clarion University of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference topped the team standings with 97 points.
Donahue picked up a victory in the 1500 meter run, completing the race in 4:48.52 to pick up 10 points. Trabert was the third place finisher in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:44.58, picking up six points in the process. Denton also finished third; her event today was the 800 meter run which she completed in 2:22.30 to earn the subsequent six points. Donahue added an eighth place finish in that event to earn a single point as well.
The Wildcats picked up five points by virtue of a fourth place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. The relay team of
Sydney McDonough (Alfred Station, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central),
Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster),
Rachel Roberson (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) and
Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) ran the race in 4:13.54.
Kress added a seventh place finish in the 400 meter hurdles, picking up two points to round out the Wildcat scorers. Her time in that race was 1:10.30.
The Wildcats' 2016 season continues next Saturday, April 23 with the East Coast Conference Championship meet which will be hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, N.Y. The 2016 season marks the first time that Daemen is eligible to win the ECC championship, and that Wildcat athletes are eligible to qualify for the NCAA Division II national championship meet.
