PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Daemen College track and field standouts
Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and
Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) took their respective shots against some big-time competition and did not disappoint as both shattered their own school records during competitions at the prestigious Penn Relays Carnival held at Pennsylvania University's Franklin Field.
Donahue got on the track first, competing in the 5,000 meter run which she completed in 17:10.78. Â That time shaved more than 45 seconds off the previous Daemen record (17:56.41) which she set earlier this season at the ROC City Classic. Â Donahue's performance also saw her surpass the provisional qualifying time in the event for the NCAA Division II National Championships, putting herself in contention for an invitation to the national meet which takes place May 26-28 in Bradenton, Fla.
Donahue finished 30th out of 63 competitors which included athletes from the likes of University of Florida, Penn State University and Duke University to name a few. Â She finished fourth out of the 10 Division II athletes in the race. Â Florida's Taylor Tubbs won the race with a time of 16:07.55.
Trabert competed in the 10,000 meter run, finishing 20th overall and second out of three Division II competitors with a time of 37:29.63. Â Trabert shaved more than two-and-a-half minutes off the previous Daemen record (40:10.13) which she just set at last week's East Coast Conference Championship meet. Â Her time there also set a new ECC Championship record.
Providence College's Sarah Collins was the 10,000 meter run winner with a time of 34:03.07.
