The Daemen College women's tennis team takes its 1-1 record on the road for a trio of matches this weekend, including their East Coast Conference opener vs. University of the District of Columbia.

ON THE SIDELINES
Daemen: Stephen Beatty enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Wildcats...over the course of his first three seasons, Beatty has guided the Daemen women's tennis team to a 24-46 record...a former collegiate player at Division II Northwood University (Mich.) and Division III D'Youville College, Beatty got his coaching start as an assistant to Kelly Brown, serving for one season - Daemen's inaugural season of tennis competition - before being promoted to the top post.
   
DAEMEN SCOUTING REPORT (1-1, 0-0 ECC)
Daemen returns seven players from last year's team that tied the program record for overall wins after finishing 8-16 overall and 1-6 in the East Coast Conference...among the returners are the duo of seniors Hayle Scanlan and Karli Hollins...Scanlan enters the season already ranking as the Wildcats' all-time leader in singles victories (33), total singles matches (76), doubles victories (33) and total doubles matches (77)...Hollins went 13-9 in singles play and 17-9 in doubles play, tying teammate Gretchen Ringler's single-season record for singles victories, and establishing a new program record for doubles wins...Ringler, who set the singles record as a freshman in 2014-15, is also back after earning nine more singles wins last season...that tied her for third on the team with fellow returners Jessica Robins and Delaney Fragale...Daemen was picked seventh in the ECC preseason poll...the Wildcats opened their 2016-17 season last weekend by splitting a pair of road matches, winning 8-1 at Fairmont State before dropping a 6-3 decision at Seton Hill...Scanlan picked went 2-0 in singles play on the weekend...the matches also marked the return of Shaylah Iverson...Iverson earned 10 doubles wins and 15 singles wins for the Wildcats between 2012-14.
   
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA SCOUTING REPORT (1-1 1-1 ECC)
UDC returns just two players from its 2015-16 team which achieved an overall record of 6-9, including a 5-2 mark in East Coast Conference play...the Firebirds finished third in the final ECC standings and made their fifth straight ECC Tournament appearance last season...both UDC returners earned all-conference accolades last season...junior Dominika Hadnadova was a first-team All-ECC selection, while senior Alena Skobkina earned second-team All-ECC honors...the Firebirds, who were picked third in the ECC preseason poll, opened the 2016-17 season by splitting a pair of conference road matches last weekend, defeating Molloy (6-3) and falling to Queens (8-1).

PHILADELPHIA SCOUTING REPORT (2-2, 0-1 CACC)
Philadelphia is a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference...the Rams return four players from their 2015-16 squad which went 8-5 overall and 3-4 in CACC play...seniors Jala Hamada and Mariana Sampaio both return after leading the Rams with eight singles victories apiece in 2015-16...the Rams were picked fourth in the CACC preseason poll...PU has split their first four matches of the season, picking up wins over Molloy (6-3) and Shippensburg (9-0), with losses coming against Holy Family (7-2) and Goldey-Beacom (8-1)...their match on Wednesday vs. U. Sciences went unfinished with the Rams trailing 4-3.

U. SCIENCES SCOUTING REPORT (3-1, 1-0 CACC)
U. Sciences is a member of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference...the Devils return three players from their 2015-16 team which achieved an overall mark of 5-12, including a 1-6 record in CACC play...U. Sciences was picked fifth in the CACC preseason poll...the Devils have nearly matched their win total from all of last season over the first few weeks of the 2016-17 season...after dropping their opener vs. St. Thomas Aquinas (8-1), the Devils rattled off three straight victories over Cabrini (9-0), Holy Family (7-2) and Roberts Wesleyan (5-4)...their match on Wednesday vs. Philadelphia went unfinished with the Devils leading 4-3.
