PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - For the third straight day just one point separated the Daemen College women's tennis team from its opponent, and for the second of those three Daemen fell by a 5-4 margin, this time against University of the Sciences in non-conference action this afternoon.
With the loss, Daemen drops to 2-3 overall while the host Devils, an affiliate of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, improve to 5-1.
The loss today came despite Daemen taking a 2-1 lead following doubles play. Â
Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) teamed with
Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) to win in second doubles, and the duo of
Delaney Fragale (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) and
Shaylah Iverson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Naples) won in third doubles to pace the Wildcats.
But, the Devils rebounded in singles play. Â Needing to take four of the six singles matchups to claim victory, that's exactly what the Devils did.
Daemen scored a pair of singles wins as
Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and Iverson won at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.
But, the Wildcats couldn't break through for the victory-clinching point.
Daemen hosts rival Roberts Wesleyan College in their home opener this Wednesday, September 21.
