Wildcats Host Rival Redhawks In Home Opener Wednesday

ON THE SIDELINES
Daemen: Stephen Beatty enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Wildcats...over the course of his first three seasons, Beatty has guided the Daemen women's tennis team to a 24-46 record...a former collegiate player at Division II Northwood University (Mich.) and Division III D'Youville College, Beatty got his coaching start as an assistant to Kelly Brown, serving for one season - Daemen's inaugural season of tennis competition - before being promoted to the top post.
   
DAEMEN SCOUTING REPORT (2-3, 0-1 ECC)
Daemen returns seven players from last year's team that tied the program record for overall wins after finishing 8-16 overall and 1-6 in the East Coast Conference...among the returners are the duo of seniors Hayle Scanlan and Karli Hollins...Scanlan enters the season already ranking as the Wildcats' all-time leader in singles victories (33), total singles matches (76), doubles victories (33) and total doubles matches (77)...Hollins went 13-9 in singles play and 17-9 in doubles play, tying teammate Gretchen Ringler's single-season record for singles victories, and establishing a new program record for doubles wins...Ringler, who set the singles record as a freshman in 2014-15, is also back after earning nine more singles wins last season...that tied her for third on the team with fellow returners Jessica Robins and Delaney Fragale...Daemen was picked seventh in the ECC preseason poll...the Wildcats went 1-2 on a three-match road trip last weekend with all three contests being settled by a single point...in their ECC opener, Daemen came oh-so-close to knocking off District of Columbia before falling 5-4...a 5-4 win at Philadelphia followed on Saturday, before closing the trip with another 5-4 loss, this one at U. Sciences...Shaylah Iverson was named the ECC's weekly honor roll after going unbeaten in singles play and earning two doubles wins last week...Iverson and Robins are each 4-1 in singles play to lead the Wildcats this season...in doubles play, Ringler and Scanlan have teamed to go 2-0 recently, as has Iverson and Fragale.
   
ROBERTS WESLEYAN SCOUTING REPORT (3-4, 0-2 ECC)
Roberts Wesleyan returns five players from its 2015-16 team which went 9-12 overall and 2-5 in East Coast Conference play...the Redhawks finished in sixth place in the final ECC standings last season, two wins back of a conference tournament berth...among the Redhawks' returners is sophomore Alyssa Brault who led the team in both singles (14-6) and doubles (15-6) wins last season...also back is sophomore Tiffany Hamdan who went 12-9 in singles play as a freshman last year...RWC was picked fifth in the ECC preseason poll...after opening the season with three wins in their first four matches, the Redhawks have hit the skids of late, dropping three straight matches...early season wins have come over Franklin Pierce (8-1), Brockport (7-2) and Kutztown (8-1)...more recently, the Redhawks fell 5-4 at U. Sciences before opening the ECC portion of their schedule with road losses at league favorite NYIT (9-0) and District of Columbia (5-4).

Daemen enters tournament play for the first time this season at the Bloomsburg Invitational this weekend (Sept. 24-25)...the Wildcats return to dual-match play when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Oct. 1.
