BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Daemen College women's tennis team competed in tournament play for the first time this season over the weekend, partaking in the Bloomsburg Invitational hosted by Bloomsburg University of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The tournament featured the Wildcats and the host BU Huskies, as well as East Stroudsburg University, Shippensburg University and Wilkes University.
Senior
Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) paced the Wildcats by going 2-0 in singles play. Scanlan won 6-1, 7-6 over Wilkes' Kendra Croker on Saturday, before downing Wilkes' Jordan Vasarkovy in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 10-6) on Sunday. The results give Scanlan a share of the team lead with five singles wins this season, as she extends her program record total to 38.
The player Scanlan is tied with - that would be redshirt-senior
Shaylah Iverson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Naples) who went 1-0 in singles play to move to 5-2 on the season. Iverson defeated BU's Chloe Berridge on Saturday, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles play, junior
Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and sophomore
Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) paced Daemen by each posting a 2-1 record. The duo paired up to defeat ESU's Amber Jadus and Kayla Loar on Saturday, 8-3. On Sunday, Ringler teamed with Scanlan on an 8-2 defeat of Wilkes' Grace Graham and Laura Zielinski, while Robins was busy pairing with Iverson on a 9-7 defeat of Catherine Miller and Gabbier Binder of Shippensburg.
Daemen returns to dual-match play by hosting East Coast Conference foe St. Thomas Aquinas this Saturday, October 1 at 1 p.m.
