Women's Track & Field 1/28/2017 6:42:00 PM Lea Sobieraski, Athletics Communications Graduate Assistant Wildcat Women Finish 4th At Brockport Meet BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Sophomore Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) and senior Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurorara) both earned first-place finishes to help the Daemen College women's indoor track and field team to fourth place in the team standings at the Brockport Golden Eagle Multi and Invitational today. Cycon was the headliner today for the Wildcats, placing first in both of her individual events. The sprinting standout eclipsed her own school record (8.09 seconds) in the 60-meter dash, running the event finals in 8.07 seconds for a first-place finish. It's the third time in the last eight days that Cycon has bested the team benchmark in the 60-meter dash, doing so during both the preliminary and final heats at last week's Highlander Invitational. She then established a new team record in the 200-meter dash, finishing first out of 51 competitors with a time of 26.58 seconds. The previous record (26.83 seconds) was set by Casey Oliphant on December 15, 2012 (SPIRE Collegiate Season Opener) in the program's second-ever indoor meet. Donahue continues to dominate, having another record-setting performance at today's competition. She ran to the top of the leaderboard in the 1-mile run with a record-breaking time of 5:05.54. She shattered her own school record of 5:11.99, which she established last week. Donahue then set another record in the 800-meter run, completing today's race in 2:21.66 just ousting the previous mark (2:21.78) which was set almost two years ago (February 14, 2015) by teammate Hannah Rice (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) at the East Coast Conference Championships. She finished second overall out of 42 entrants in the event. Teammates Ashley Cheff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) and Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama) added fifth and 11th place finishes in the one-mile run today, respectively. Donahue and Cycon were also members of the record-setting 4x400-meter relay, joining teammates Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) and Sydney McDonough (Alfred, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central). The group finished 2nd overall with a record-setting time of 4:11.40, cracking the previous top time (4:16.35) by five seconds. McDonough and Kress both participated in the 400-meter dash, finishing sixth and seventh respectively, with times of 1:02.79 and 1:03.10. First-year athlete Sam Karp (Ransomville, N.Y./Lewiston-Porter) had another solid performance on the track, finishing seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.59 seconds. Kress, who already holds the team's pole vault record, was joined by teammate Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) in the Daemen record book. Both Wildcats cleared 3.05 meters at today's competition, finishing in a five-way tie for fifth place. Another highlight of today's field events was Rachel Roberson's (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) ninth-place finish in the long jump. Roberson leaped 4.69 meters to lead the Daemen pack in the event. Daemen is back in action at the Jim Wuske Invitational, scheduled for next Saturday, February 4. The meet will take place on the campus of the University of Mount Union located in Alliance, Ohio.
