HOWARD "BUD" ELWELL INVITATIONAL — FULL RESULTS
ERIE, Pa. - The Daemen College men's golf team closed out the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule by taking part in the Howard "Bud" Elwell Invitational this past weekend. The eight-team tournament took place Sunday and today at the par-72 Whispering Woods Golf Club.
Tournament host Gannon University claimed the team championship with a two-day score of 607—13 strokes better than second place Mercyhurst University (620). Daemen placed seventh with a score of 663. Freshman Ethan Bennett (Stoney Creek, Ontario) of Gannon fired a one-over-par 73 during both rounds and claimed individual medalist honors with a two-day score of 146 (+2).
Daemen senior Mitch Feneziani (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) closed out a strong fall season by tying for 10th place out of 46 golfers. Feneziani fired a four-over-par 76 during the opening round and followed up with an 80 today. It marked his second top-10 finish this fall—and the eighth top-10 finish of his four-year career. The 80 he carded this morning snapped a streak of seven-straight rounds scored in the 70's for Feneziani, who scored a career-best 72 during the second round of the Redhawk Fall Invitational three weeks ago. He closed out the fall with a team-best 75.9 stroke average.
Junior Ryan Gibbons (Amherst, N.Y./Canisius) failed to post a round in the 70's for the first time in his last six tournaments dating to back last season and finished tied for 27th with a two-day score of 170 (84/86).
Seniors Pauley Pitcher II (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker) and Max Winterburn (Harrogate, England) also competed for the Wildcats. Pitcher carded an 82 this morning and also finished tied for 27th with a 170 (88/82). Winterburn tied for 40th with a 177 (88/89).
Junior college transfer Tyler Hockenberger (Greece, N.Y./Monroe CC) withdrew from competition during the opening round on Sunday, but returned to action to day and carded a 79. He closed out his first fall season with the program by scoring in the 70's in four of his seven rounds. Freshman Alex Brown (Lancaster, N.Y.) competed as an individual and posted a two-day score of 185 (95/90).
The spring portion of Daemen's 2017-18 schedule will be announced at a later date.
