HARMAN'S BACK
Kyle Harman enters his second season as men's golf coach at Daemen. A former two-year member of the golf team at Daemen, Harman is a 2013 graduate of the College and helped the Wildcats capture the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national championship as a senior. A native of Orchard Park, N.Y., Harman posted a team-best 76.1 stroke average during his senior season for Daemen, and is the current record-holder for low score (64) at Crag Burn Golf Club in East Aurora.
RETURNING WILDCATS
Daemen's seven member roster features just two returning golfers, as seniors Ryan Gibbons (Amherst, N.Y.) and Tyler Hockenberger (Greece, N.Y.) will anchor the roster in 2018-19. Gibbons has appeared in 21 tournaments over his career, and 19 of his 35 rounds have been played in 70's. Hockenberger made an immediate impact during the 2017-18 campaign, his first with the Wildcats after transferring from Monroe Community College. He carded six rounds in the 70's and carried an 80.5 stroke average last season.
HALPERN'S HISTORIC WEEKEND
Freshman Kevin Halpern (East Amherst, N.Y.) turned in a historic effort last weekend during the Redhawks Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College. Halpern fired an even-par 72 during the opening round on Sunday and followed up with a one-under-par 71 Monday. His two-day score of 143 (-1) was good for second place out of 25 golfers. He was -3 over the final 12 holes on Monday and finished the tournament with 24 pars and seven birdies. Halpern becomes the first Daemen golfer to finish a two-day tournament under par since Kyle Kapturowski tied for first place at the 2010 Colgate University Invitational with a 143 (-1). Not to be overlooked, senior Ryan Gibbons (Amherst, N.Y.) placed third overall with a two-day score of 147. He equaled his career-low score of 73 (+1) during the opening round and followed up with a 74 on Monday. His two-day score of 147 (+3) is the lowest of his four-year career.
