Daemen Golfers Place 12th In Final Fall Event

LE MOYNE FALL INVITATIONAL — FULL RESULTS

MANLIUS, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's golf team wrapped up the fall portion of their 2018-19 schedule by placing 12th at the Le Moyne College Fall Invitational. The 12-team tournament took place over the last two days at the par-72 Cavalry Club.

Roberts Wesleyan College claimed the team championship with a score of 583 (+7). The Redhawks entered today's final round trailing Laval University by a single stroke, but bested the Canadian team by three shots today, 295 to 298. Laval (585/+9) took runner-up honors back to Quebec, while Southern New Hampshire University (588/+12), Post University (590/+14) and Concordia College (597/+21) rounded out the tournament's top five teams. Daemen carded rounds of 333 and 307, finishing at 64-over-par.

A one-hole playoff was needed to determine individual medalist honors. Laval's Antoine Roy and Roberts Wesleyan's Brandon Grzywacz finished atop the 74-participant field with two-round scores of 139 (-5). Roy, who shot a tournament-low six-under-par in Friday's first round, birdied the first playoff hole (hole No. 18) to grab medalist honors.

Daemen was paced by senior Tyler Hockenberger (Greece, N.Y.) who finished in a five-way tie for 28th with a two-round scored of 152 (+8). Hockenberger carded scores of 75 and 78, and has now scored in the 70's in three consecutive rounds. He's now totaled 10 rounds in the 70's over his two-year career with the Wildcats, and his opening-round 75 was a career-best effort.

Senior Ryan Gibbons finished in the top half of the field as he tied for 37th with a two-day score of 154 (+10). Like Hockenberger, Gibbons carded back-to-back rounds in the 70's (78, 76) to bring his career total to 21.

Freshmen Kevin Halpern (East Amherst, N.Y.) and Drew Vincek (Orchard Park, N.Y.) also competed for Daemen. Halpern, who finished as the runner-up at the Redhawk Invitational earlier this week, placed tied for 43rd this time around with a two-day score of 156 (+12). After carding an opening-round 83, Halpern rebounded the shoot 73 on Saturday to be among a group of 15 players with that score or better. Vincek placed 74th with a two-round score of 178 (+34); he saw a 16-shot improvement Saturday by shooting a career-best 81.

Daemen's 2018-19 season will continue next spring. The spring portion of the team's schedule will be announced at a later date.
