Wildcats Fall In First Road Match Of Spring Season

DEWITT, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team suffered their first defeat of the spring season tonight, falling 7-2 in a non-conference dual match against Le Moyne College.

The loss snaps a modest two-match winning streak for the Wildcats in what was their first of four road matches during the spring portion of their 2016-17 schedule.  Daemen, which tied the program record for wins in a season following Friday's 6-3 defeat of Davis & Elkins College, falls to 8-12 on the season with tonight's loss.  Northeast-10 Conference member Le Moyne improved to 9-7 overall after picking up their sixth consecutive win.

The Dolphins opened the match by sweeping through doubles action to take a 3-0 lead.

Daemen broke through in singles play with points from Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo) and Morgan Park (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg), but it wasn't enough to stave off defeat.  Hollins picked up her eighth singles win of the season, defeating LC's Tiffany Dun (Templestowe, Victoria) in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) in the first singles position.  Dun was the 2015-16 NE-10 Rookie of the Year, and the win was Hollins' 25th of her Daemen career.  Park won her match in the sixth singles position which included a marathon third set.  She downed Cameron Aiello (Syracuse, N.Y.) 6-1, 3-6, 11-9.

Daemen returns to action Sunday when Edinboro University comes to Miller Tennis Center for an afternoon dual match which gets underway at 2:30 p.m.
