Women's Tennis Falls To Edinboro

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Playing at home for the final time this season, the Daemen College women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 non-conference dual match to visiting Edinboro University at Miller Tennis Center this afternoon.

It was the second loss in as many days for the Wildcats as they attempt to surpass the program's record for wins in a season which they matched with a 6-3 defeat of Davis & Elkins College on Friday evening.  Today's loss drops Daemen to 8-13 this season.  The team has achieved eight victories in each of the last four seasons.

Edinboro, a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, improved to 2-0 this season.  Today's match was the first for the Fighting Scots since mid-October.

Today's match also marked the final home contest in the careers of Daemen seniors Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo), Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and Shaylah Iverson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Naples) who were honored in a brief pre-match ceremony.

Hollins and Scanlan teamed up for an 8-3 win in the first doubles position over EU's Laura Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) and Roxana Yeh (Buenos Aires, Argentina).  It was the sixth win of the season while paired together, and the 25th time in their careers that they've earned a doubles win together.  The win adds to Scanlan's program-record total of doubles wins (44).

Hollins added a win in the first singles position over EU's Julia Hellstern (Stuttgart, Germany) to round out the scoring for Daemen.  The win came in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) and it gives Hollins two-straight victories in singles play.  She now has 26 singles wins in her Daemen career.

Daemen looks for that elusive ninth win of the season when the Wildcats visit Division III Franklin College on March 13.
