ALLIANCE, OHIO- The Daemen College women's indoor track and field team participated in the 2017 Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by the University of Mount Union at the Peterson Fieldhouse. Multiple Wildcats saw top-ten finishes in their respective events at today's competition.
Daemen's 4x200-meter relay squad consisting of Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster), Rachel Roberson (Tonawanda, N.Y., Sydney McDonough (Alfred, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central), and Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) busted into the Wildcat record book. The group broke the previous three-year old record (1:54.56) in a time of 1:53.28, finishing sixth overall.
Senior Ashley Cheff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) topped a 31-participant field in the 3,000-meter run at today's competition. Cheff, one of Daemen's premiere athletes, ran to her first-place finish in 10:50.04. She later took part in the one mile race, completing the event in 5:26.43, good for a fifth-place finish.
Also excelling in the mile race today was senior standout Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora). Donahue, who established two new Wildcat benchmarks last week, led the pack of 39 entrants with a time of 5:06.36. She bested the next top finisher by an overwhelming 14 seconds, just missing her own record by less than one second (5:05.54).
Sophomore sprinting sensation Tiffany Cycon has continued to be a top contender in her individual events. Today, she ran the 200-meter dash, sprinting the event in 26.65 seconds, just shy of her school record (26.58). She finished fourth out of 50 contenders.
McDonough and Kress continued to be a force in the 400-meter dash, finishing eighth and 19th respectively, as just less than two seconds separated the duo. McDonough, who set a record in the 300-meter race earlier this year, finished the sprint in 1:02.89. Kress completed the event in 1:04.23, and she added a 13th-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 2.96 meters today.
Additional highlights from the meet include
Carrie Akin's (Akron, N.Y./Akron) 11th place showing in the 500-meter dash. The sophomore sprinter crossed the finish line in 1:33.45.
