Women's Tennis Wraps Up Season With Three-Match Road Trip

THE SERVE
The Daemen College women's tennis team has won eight dual matches for the fourth-straight season, and they'll enter the final road trip of the 2016-17 season with three chances to set the program record for wins in a season...two of the three matches will be played in Indiana, the home state of Daemen senior Hayle Scanlan who will end her career as Daemen's all-time leader in singles and doubles wins.

ON THE SIDELINES
Stephen Beatty enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Wildcats...over the course of his first three seasons, Beatty has guided the Daemen women's tennis team to a 24-46 record...a former collegiate player at Division II Northwood University (Mich.) and Division III D'Youville College, Beatty got his coaching start as an assistant to Kelly Brown, serving for one season - Daemen's inaugural season of tennis competition - before being promoted to the top post.
   
DAEMEN GROUND STROKES (8-13, 1-6 ECC)
Daemen returns seven players from last year's team that tied the program record for overall wins after finishing 8-16 overall and 1-6 in the East Coast Conference...among the returners are the duo of seniors Hayle Scanlan and Karli Hollins...Scanlan enters the season already ranking as the Wildcats' all-time leader in singles victories (33), total singles matches (76), doubles victories (33) and total doubles matches (77)...Hollins went 13-9 in singles play and 17-9 in doubles play, tying teammate Gretchen Ringler's single-season record for singles victories, and establishing a new program record for doubles wins...Ringler, who set the singles record as a freshman in 2014-15, is also back after earning nine more singles wins last season...that tied her for third on the team with fellow returner Jessica Robins...Daemen was picked seventh in the ECC preseason poll...eight of Daemen's 21 matches this season have been decided by three points or less...after staring the fall with just two wins in their first eight outings, Daemen has regrouped to go 6-7 from Oct. 7 on...Scanlan has added 12 singles wins and 12 doubles wins to her career record totals, leading the team in both categories this season... Shaylah Iverson, who made her return to the team after a two-year hiatus, has posted an 11-10 singles record, while Robins is 10-13 and Hollins is 9-11...in doubles play, Ringler has posted 11 wins, six of which have come while paired with Scanlan.
   
FRANKLIN GROUND STROKES (7-7, 5-3 HCAC)
Franklin is a member of NCAA Division III and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference...the Grizzlies are led by long-time head coach Rusty Hughes who is in his 29th season at the helm...the Grizzlies went 7-6 during their fall season which ended with a 5-2 loss to Rose-Hulman in the HCAC Tournament semifinals...Franklin opened its spring season with a 9-0 loss at DePauw on March 9...all 10 players on the roster are returners from the Grizzlies' 2015-16 squad which went 15-3 overall and 7-1 in the league...sophomores Karen Dringenburg and Rachel Rose earned All-HCAC honors last fall...both players posted eight singles wins during the fall season to share the team lead, while Dringenburg racked up 16 doubles victories with various partners...senior Alexa Schofner and freshman Megan Battles were honorable mention All-HCAC selections as well.

SOUTHERN INDIANA GROUND STROKES (5-4, 0-0 GLVC)
USI is a member of NCAA Division II and the Great Lakes Valley Conference...the Screaming Eagles are led by long-time head coach Keely Porter who is in her 26th season at the helm...in that time, Porter has led USI to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and 12 top-four finishes in the GLVC...USI returns five players from its 2015-16 squad which went 7-13 overall and 3-3 in the league...among the team's returners is senior Brenna Wu who led the team with 12 singles wins last season...junior Jennifer Mizikar also returns after posting 10 singles wins in 2015-16...Wu (12-10 in doubles play) is one of three returners who reached 10 doubles wins last season, joining senior Kymberly Brannon and junior Kelsey Shipman who registered 11 apiece...USI went 2-1 on a recent road trip to Florida...the Screaming Eagles snapped a four-match slide with a 5-4 defeat of Stonehill on Mar. 9, the team's first win since Feb. 3...USI added an 8-1 win over Bentley on Mar. 10...Shipman has paced USI thus far with a 7-5 record in singles matches, while Brannon is 6-6...in doubles play, Wu is 8-4 with multiple partners, including a perfect 4-0 mark on the number one doubles court.

BELLARMINE GROUND STROKES (10-2, 0-0 GLVC)
Bellarmine is a member of NCAA Division II and the Great Lakes Valley Conference...the Knights are led by 14th-year head coach John Mican, the 2007 GLVC Coach of the Year...after going 11-9 overall and 4-2 in league play during the 2015-16 season, the Knights return eight players include All-GLVC honoree Maggie Walroth...Walroth went 18-8 in singles play last season, including a 13-6 mark in dual match play with all 19 matches coming on the first singles court...the Knights will enter Thursday's match with Daemen as winners of six-straight...the streak started with an 8-1 neutral-site win over Truman State on Feb. 26, and the Knights own a 6-1 win over Division I Alabama A&M in the streak...BU is coming off a pair of one-point wins, defeating North Alabama (5-4) on Mar. 9 and Alabama-Huntsville (5-4) on Mar. 10...five players have reached double-figure singles wins this season, led by the 16-5 mark of junior Mairin Cotter...Walroth is 14-4, including a 10-2 mark on the first singles court...junior Marissa Kovach (13-5), freshman Ashley Jonathan (11-4) and senior Sydney Thompson (10-6) have also produced in singles play this season, helping the Knights to a 78-42 record in singles matches...in doubles play, it;s been Walroth and Jonathan paired together atop the Knights' lineup and the duo has gone 13-6.
