Women's Tennis 3/14/2017 11:21:00 PM Mike Miranto, Associate A.D. for Communications Wildcats Post Record-Setting Ninth Win Of Season COLUMBUS, Ind. - The Daemen College women's tennis team scored an 8-1 win in a non-conference dual match against Franklin College this evening at the Tipton Lakes Athletic Club. The win tonight gives Daemen nine on the season, breaking the program record for wins in a season. Daemen (9-13 overall record), which tied the program record with its eighth win of the season on Feb. 24 (6-3 vs. Davis & Elkins College), snapped a two-match slide with the win tonight. The Wildcats have now recorded at least eight wins in each of the last four seasons, all under the direction of head coach Stephen Beatty who took the reins of the program in just its second season of existence back in 2013-14. Franklin, a member of NCAA Division III and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, fell below .500 for the season (7-8) with tonight's setback. The Grizzlies feature 10 returners from their 2015-16 squad which achieved a 15-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in HCAC play. Daemen is now 23-13 all-time against Division III opponents. Daemen opened the match by winning all three doubles matchups. At the top of the lineup, seniors Karli Hollins (Orchard Park, N.Y./SUNY Geneseo) and Hayle Scanlan (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) evened their record as a pair at 7-7 this season with an 8-3 defeat of FC's Karen Dringenburg and Holyn Eldridge. It was the 26th win for Hollins and Scanlan while teaming together in their careers. Individually, Scanlan ranks first in team history with 46 doubles wins while Hollins ranks second with 30. On the second doubles court, it was junior Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) and sophomore Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) who posted an 8-2 win over FC's Megan Battles and Alexa Schofner. And, red-shirt senior Shaylah Iverson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Naples) paired with sophomore Morgan Park (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) to best FC's Jessica Baker and Claire Hirsch 8-3 in the third doubles position. With a 3-0 lead in the match, Daemen picked up an additional five points in singles play to sew up the record-setting victory. Hollins (first singles), Scanlan (second singles), Ringler (third singles), Robins (fourth singles) and Iverson (fifth singles) all picked up their second points of the match. Between the third and fifth singles positions, the Wildcats dropped only six total games. Ringler cruised past Schofner 6-1, 6-0; Robins downed Battles 6-3, 6-0; and Iverson posted a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Brianna Hutton. At the top of the lineup, Hollins and Scanlan were tested. Hollins fought off All-HCAC honoree Dringenburg 6-3, 6-4 for her 10th singles win of the season. She's now won three-straight singles matches and six of her last nine. Playing in her home state for the first time in her career, Scanlan picked up her team-leading 13th singles win of the season by staving off Eldridge 6-2, 7-5. Daemen returns to action Wednesday (Mar. 15) with a non-league dual match against the University of Southern Indiana.
