Donahue & Kress Earn First-Team All-League Honors

AMHERST, N.Y. - Daemen College long distance runner Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) have been named to the All-East Coast Conference first team, headlining eight Wildcat indoor track and field athletes who earned all-conference recognition.  The all-conference teams were decided based on individual performances at the ECC Championship meet last month, and they were announced in a press release from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y.

Donahue continued her stellar career with a pair of first-place finishes at the conference championship meet which was held on Feb. 24 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.  She set new meet records in both the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs, doing so for the second-straight season.  She posted a time of 10:10.71 in the shorter of the two races, eight seconds faster than the record she set in 2016 (10:18.72).  She followed that with a time of 17:00.75 in the 5,000-meter run, shaving 30 seconds off her own meet record (17:30.18) and 15 seconds off her own school record (17:15.05).  Already named an All-Region performer in both events this season, Donahue went on to compete in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championship meet on Mar. 9, finishing 13th in the 5,000-meter run there.

Kress, a 5-foot-6 sophomore, finished first in the ECC's pole vault competition by clearing 3.05 meters in her first attempt.  It marked the fourth time in Kress' career that she's cleared the school-record mark of 3.05 meters, including at last season's conference championship meet where she finished second to also earn first-team All-ECC honors.

In addition, long distance runner Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) and pole-vaulter Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) earned second-team All-ECC honors, as did the Daemen distance medley team of Morgan Urbanek (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder), Katherine Robinson (Pasadena, Calif./Pasadena), Shania LiVecchi (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) and Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y./Oakfield-Alabama).  Trabert posted top-five finishes in both the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter runs, earning all-league honors in the latter where she came in third with a time of 18:45.55.  Haude matched Kress' clearing in the pole vault (3.05 meters), but because it came after her first attempt she finished in third place in the event.  She has cleared the school-record pole vault height twice now in this, her freshman season.  And, the distance medley quartet placed second with a time of 13:02.63.

The all-conference honorees helped Daemen to a fifth-place tie in the ECC team standings.
