Wildcats Compete At Geneseo Early Spring Invitational

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Daemen College women's track and field team got their 2017 outdoor season kicked into high gear tonight by setting new school records in two different events, as well as four top-five finishes during competition at the Geneseo Early Spring Invitational hosted by SUNY Geneseo.

Sophomore sprinting sensation Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) bested her own school record in the 200-meter dash with a record-breaking time of 26.33 seconds, finishing third out of 60 entrants.  She also added a fourth place finish in the 100-meter sprint, completing that race in 12.90 seconds.

Sophomore Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) got in the record-setting act as well, establishing a new team record in the pole-vault.  She finished seventh overall having cleared 2.95 meters, surpassing the previous benchmark of 2.90 meters.  Kress also put forth a stellar performance in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:09.47, just barely missing a second school record on the day (1:09.23).

Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora), the unquestioned top distance runner for the Wildcats, was the lone first place finisher at today's meet.  The senior standout topped the field of 25 entrants in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 17:39.56.  Teammate Amy Trabert (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst), another one of Daemen's premiere distance runners, placed third, finishing the 5000-meter event in 18:17.77.

Sophomore Sydney McDonough (Alfred, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) added a sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash for the Wildcats.  McDonough finished the race in 1:01.48.

In field events, freshman Taylor Haude finished in a four-way tie for eighth place behind teammate Kress in the pole vault, having cleared 2.75 meters.

Sophomores Kaitlin Ford (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) and Rachel Roberson finished 16th and 18th in the long jump, respectively.  Ford leaped 4.67 meters, while Roberson jumped 4.48 meters.

The Wildcats are back in action at this weekend's Roc City Classic, hosted by Nazareth College on Saturday, April 8th
