For Communications Wildcats Compete At UB Invitational AMHERST, N.Y. - Three school records fell today as the Daemen College women's outdoor track and field team competed at the University at Buffalo Invitational held at UB Stadium. It marked the second-straight season that Daemen has participated in the meet which of course took place less than five miles away from campus. Sophomore sprinter Sydney McDonough (Alfred Station, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) put up the Wildcats' most impressive performance on the track today, finishing third in the 400-meter dash with a school-record time of 59.32 seconds. McDonough became the fist Daemen runner to run a sub-one-minute time in the event, besting her own previous school record of 1:00.38 which she set earlier this season at the Brockport Invitational. McDonough was edged for second place in the race by Roberts Wesleyan College's Kristina Button (58.10 seconds), but she finished better than a quartet of Division I athletes from Niagara University, Buffalo, Canisius College and St. Bonaventure University. The Wildcats' 4x400-meter relay squad also ran into the record books today, finishing second in their race with a benchmark time of 4:09.54. The benchmark squad consisted of sophomores McDonough, Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) and Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central), as well as senior Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora). The three sophomores were a part of the previous record-holding team, along with classmate Rachel Roberson (Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home), running a time of 4:11.73 at last season's Cardinal Last Chance Meet. The team's pole vault record also fell as freshman Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) cleared 3.05 meters to finish in third place today. Haude out-seated Kress as the team record-holder in the event. Kress, whose set the previous record (3.00 meters) at the ROC City Classic earlier this month, cleared 2.90 meters today to finish fourth. Additional highlights on the track today included a 10th-place finish for senior Katherine Robinson (Pasadena, Calif./Pasadena) in the 800-meter run (2:34.02), an 11th-place finish for senior Morgan Urbanek (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) in the 1,500-meter run (5:06.85), a 15th-place finish for graduate student Ashley Cheff (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) in the 3,000-meter run (11:08.75), an eighth place finish for freshman Sam Karp (Ransomville, N.Y./Lewiston-Porter) in the 100-meter hurdles (17.42 seconds) and a sixth-place finish for sophomore Carrie Akin (Akron, N.Y./Akron) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:13.01). In field events, Roberson leaped 4.84 meters to finish 12th in the long jump. The school-record holder in the event, Roberson set the benchmark (5.02 meters) at last season's UB Invitational. Freshman Hannah Miller (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse) was the busiest thrower in action for Daemen today, finishing eighth in the hammer throw (33.10 meters) and ninth in both the shot put (8.60 meters) and discus (26.24 meters). Haude and teammate Kaitlin Ford (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) were the lone entrants in the javelin; Haude finished first with a long throw of 24.62 meters, while Ford's best effort traveled 18.26 meters. Daemen returns to action two weeks from today (Saturday, May 13) at the Cardinal Last Chance Meet hosted by St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y.
