Records Drop For Wildcat Women At ROC City Classic

Daemen Sophmores Set Four New Daemen Records

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Four school records fell as the Daemen College women's outdoor track and field team participated in the 2017 ROC City Classic today hosted by Nazareth College.  Today marked the sixth-straight season that Daemen has taken part in this competition.

Sophomore Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) got in the Daemen record books for the second consecutive week, setting three Daemen records in eight days.  In the 400-meter hurdles, Kress smashed her previous record of 1:09.23 with a time of 1:08.77, finishing eighth out of 29 contenders.  In field events, Kress cleared 3.00 meters in the pole vault, placing eighth out of 28 vaulters.  At last weekend's meet she established a new team record after clearing 2.90 meters.

Also putting her mark on the record book today was sophomore Sam Carro (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) in the 100 meter hurdles.  She finished sixth in the event today with a time of 15.99 seconds, eclipsing her previous mark of 16.30 seconds which set at the UB Invitational last year.

Sydney McDonough (Alfred Station, N.Y./Alfred-Almond Central) was also in the record-setting mood today, establishing a new team record in the 400-meter dash.  McDonough, who set multiple records during the indoor campaign, crossed the finish line in 1:00.40, finishing sixth out of 46 entrants.  The previous record of 1: 00.65 was held by teammate Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster).

On the field, freshman Hannah Miller (Seneca Fall, N.Y./Mynderse Acad.) was the lone thrower for the Wildcats, competing in three of the four throwing events.  Her best performance came in the hammer throw, finishing 19th out of 37 athletes with a throw of 33.17 meters.  She also took part in the shot put (8.19 meters) and discus (27.51 meters), finishing 22nd and 38th respectively.

The meet today, which featured 28 collegiate teams' rankings from Division III to Division I, was not scored for team standings.

Next weekend the Wildcats travel to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania to compete in the 2017 Bison Outdoor Class, hosted by Bucknell University (Friday-Saturday, April 14-15).
