Both new school benchmarks were established by rookies; Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.) and Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.) each established a new record in their respective events. Warner, also a standout on the Daemen women's cross-country team, finished second in the 600-meter run with a record-breaking time of 1:42.54. She eclipsed Stephani Czaja's previous mark of 2:00.03, which was set in February 2014. Meyer, another two-sport athlete, broke the Daemen triple jump record not once but five times today. She bested the previous record of 9.93 meters established in February 2015 by Ashley Krol in all five jumps. Meyer finished the event fourth out of nine entrants with a leap of 10.31 meters. Junior sprinter Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y.) continued her dominant career, notching two top-five finishes in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Cycon earned a spot in the 60-meter sprint finals with a preliminary time of 8.11 seconds and went on to place fifth, crossing the finish line in 8.12 seconds. Cycon then finished third out of 31 participants in the 200-meter event, completing that race in 27.31 seconds. Cycon owns the current Wildcat records in both events. Also turning in great performances on the track for the Wildcats were returners Sam Carro (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y.). Carro, a junior sprinter, placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.92 seconds while Denton, a veteran distance specialist finished second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:01.45. In relay action, the team of Warner, Ashley Dusza (Alden, N.Y.), Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y.) and Carrie Akin (Akron, N.Y.) finished second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:27.74. Akin also added a tenth place finish in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:54.72. In field events, rookie Tirzah Peters (Amherst, N.Y.) had an outstanding debut for the Wildcats. Peters, also a vital member of the Daemen women's volleyball team, placed third in the shot put with a heave of 11.19 meters. She also added a fourth-place finish in the 20lb. weight throw with a toss of 11.92 meters. Sophomore thrower Hannah Miller (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) placed third out of 13 entrants in the weight throw, tossing it 11.98 meters. Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y.) and Kress put forth a good showing in the pole vault. The duo finished fourth and fifth respectively, having each cleared 2.95 meters.
