FULL RESULTS
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – An individual champion and six top-five finishes lifted the Daemen College women's indoor track and field team to a fifth place showing at the Brockport Golden Eagle Multi and Invitational today.
The Wildcats finished with 47 team points, just eight points behind fourth-place Canisius College. Meet host The College at Brockport claimed the team championship with 167 points. The University of Rochester (126), SUNY Geneseo (98), Canisius (55) and Daemen rounded out the top five. A total of 15 schools took part in the event.
Freshman Tara Pede (Schenectady, N.Y.) claimed the individual title in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:11.98. She outlasted junior Ariane Hasbrouck of Rochester by just two seconds to claim the title. Daemen also got second-place showings by freshman Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.) in the 500-meter run and senior Brittany Denton (Oakfield, N.Y.) in the 1,000-meter run. Warner finished just one second behind the event winner and placed second out of 17 runners with a time of 1:21.75. Denton came just two seconds from the first-place finish and placed second out of 18 runners with a time of 3:07.08.
Additional top-five finishes went to juniors Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y.) and Sam Carro (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and the 4x400 relay team of Kress and Warner and freshmen Katie Wright (Kent, N.Y.) and Ashley Dusza (Alden, N.Y.). Kress placed fifth out of 17 runners in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:04.43 and Carro placed third out of eight competitors in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.64. The relay team placed fifth out of 14 teams with a time of 4:27.27.
Junior sprinter Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y.) also turned in a solid effort in the 60-meter dash, as she placed eighth out of 39 runners with a a time of 8.23.
Freshman Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.) established a new school record for the second-straight week. After setting a new mark in the triple jump last week, she posted a record jump of 4.81 meters in the long jump this afternoon. The previous mark of 4.77 was set by Ashley Krol two years ago at the Marc Deneault Invitational. Sophomore Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y.) matched her career-high and school-record effort in the pole vault, as she placed eighth out of 17 competitors with a jump of 3.05 meters.
Daemen is idle until Feb. 10 when it takes part in the Highlander Invitational hosted by Houghton College.
