Feneziani and Gibbons Pace Wildcats at Rain-Shortened Spadafora Invitational

CECIL C. SPADAFORA INVITATIONAL — FULL RESULTS

INDIANA, Pa. - The Daemen College men's golf team finished tied for ninth out of 15 schools at the rain-shortened Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational here this weekend. The tournament took place at the par-71 Indiana Country Club and was hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Daemen was making its first-ever appearance in the 55 year history of the event.

The tournament was originally scheduled for two days, but rain forced the cancelation of today's second round.

Millersville University edged out the University of Charleston to claim the team championship. Millersville posted a team score of 296 (+12) during the opening round yesterday, one stroke ahead of Charleston (297). Le Moyne College (299), Gannon University (300) and West Chester University (302) rounded out the top five. Daemen (309) finished just seven strokes shy of the top-five finish. Freshman Ron Yanoski (Archbald, Pa.) of Millersville fired a one-under-par 70 during the opening round and claimed individual medalist honors.

Daemen was paced by senior Mitch Feneziani (West Seneca, N.Y.) and junior Ryan Gibbons (Amherst, N.Y.), who both finished just three strokes back of the leader and tied for fourth out of 91 golfers with a 73. Feneziani, who came one stroke shy of tying his career-low score, shot par on 12 of the 18 holes and birdied the first and 10th holes. The 73 was a new career-low score for Gibbons, who birdied two of the final three holes and finished with 10 pars and three birdies.

Feneziani has now posted a round in the 70's nine times out of 11 rounds this season. It also marked the third time this season, and the ninth time over his career, that he has posted a top-ten finish. Gibbons, who registered his fourth career top-ten finish, has now posted a round in the 70's seven times out of 11 rounds this season.

Seniors Max Winterburn (Harrogate, England) and Pauley Pitcher II (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and junior college transfer Tyler Hockenberger (Greece, N.Y.) also competed for the Wildcats. Winterburn posted two birdies and six pars on the day and finished tied for 56th with an 80. Pitcher carded an 86 and finished tied for 78th, while Hockenberger posted an 83 and finished tied for 68th.

The Wildcats close out the 2017-18 schedule with two tournaments in Pennsylvania next weekend. Daemen will take part in the one-day Gannon Spring Invitational on Saturday (April 21) and close out the season at the two-day Mercyhurst Invitational on Sunday (April 22) and Monday (April 23).
