ERIE, Pa. -
Ryan Gibbons (Amherst, N.Y.) posted his third top-15 finish of the season to lead the Daemen College men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Gannon Spring Invitational. The one-day, 18-hole tournament was held at Whispering Woods Golf Club today.
Gibbons, who tied for fourth at the rain-shortened Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational last weekend, carded a 78 today and finished in a tie for 12th place out of 57 entrants. It was Gibbons' seventh tournament round in the 70's this season.
Fellow junior
Tyler Hockenberger (Greece, N.Y.) finished with a 79 today, placing in a tie for 17th.
Seniors
Pauley Pitcher II (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and
Max Winterburn (Harrogate, England), and freshman
Alex Brown (Lancaster, N.Y.) also competed for the Wildcats today. Pitcher carded an 80 to finish tied for 20th, the sixth top-20 finish of his career. Winterburn shot an 85, and Brown an 86 to finish tied for 35th and 37th, respectively. The Wildcats combined for a team score of 322, nine back of third-place Gannon.
Humber College out of Ontario, Canada took home the team title today after posting a combined score of 303, one shot better than runner-up Allegheny College.
Gannon's Matt Barto grabbed individual medalist honors and needed two playoff holes to do so. He and Allegheny's Louis Olsakovsky had finished tied atop the leaderboard after each carding rounds of 71.
Daemen will remain in the northwest Pennsylvania area to close out their 2017-18 season over the next two days at the Mercyhurst Invitational to be held at Lake View Country Club.
