Tyler Hockenberger (Greece, N.Y.) shot an opening-round 78 (+6) and carded a total score of 159 (+15) to finish alone in 16th place at the Mercyhurst Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was was held over the last two days at Lake View Country Club, and it represents the final tournament on Daemen's 2017-18 schedule. The Wildcats had just three players compete so they were not eligible for the team standings which included seven additional teams. Humber College out of Ontario, Canada totaled 617 strokes (+41) between their five players to take team medalist honors, edging second-place Allegheny College (623, +47) by six.
Hockenberger, who was coming off a 17th-place finish at Saturday's Gannon Spring Invitational, recorded his third top-20 finish of the season. The opening-round 78 matched his season-best effort, and it was his second straight round in the 70's after carding a 79 Saturday. The junior college transfer posted a final-round 81 today, and finished the season with a stroke average of 80.5.
Seniors
Pauley Pitcher II (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and
Max Winterburn (Harrogate, England) also competed for the Wildcats, finishing their respective careers in the process. Pitcher II placed 27th with a two-day score of 165 (+21), including his round of 81 today. He finishes his career with 47 total rounds in 27 tournament appearances, and a stroke average of 83.1. Winterburn placed in a tie for 34th with a two-day score of 169 (+25). The England native appeared in 32 tournaments over the course of his career, playing 56 total rounds with a stroke average of 82.7.
Humber's Connor Watt took home individual medalist honors after carding rounds of 76 and 71 for a two-day score of 147 (+3), four strokes better than runner-up Louis Olsakovsky (151, +7) of Allegheny. The tournament field consisted of 47 total competitors.
