Women's Track & Field Places 4th At Alfred State Invitational

ALFRED, N.Y. - Just about 48 hours removed from hosting the East Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet, the Daemen College women's track and field team returned to action by placing fourth out of eighth competing squads at the Alfred State Invitational today at Pioneer Stadium. The Wildcats, who took just a small squad to today's meet, accumulated 90 points in the team standings. Niagara University totaled 176 to sit atop the team standings today.

Freshman Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.), who claimed the ECC title Saturday in the triple jump, snagged three more top-five finishes today. The 5-foot-10 jumper eclipsed her own team record, which she had just established Saturday, with a leap of 10.59 meters to place second in the triple jump competition today. She added a third-place finish in the long jump (4.88 meters) and a second-place finish in the high jump (1.40 meters).

Throwers Hannah Miller (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) and Cayleigh Scia (Lancaster, N.Y.) placed second and third, respectively, in the hammer throw. Miller's toss of 38.69 meters eclipsed a four-year-old team record (38.46 meters) set by Ashley Pinette at the 2014 ECC Championship meet. She also placed fourth in the discus with a long throw of 29.32 meters. Scia's hammer throw of 36.30 meters was the longest of her career thus far.

On the track, sprinter Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y.) grabbed a pair of top-five finishes individually. She placed third in the 100-meter dash (13.26 seconds) and added a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (26.47 seconds). She also ran the first leg for Daemen's 1600-meter sprint relay team, which also included Alysha Jackson (San Juan, P.R.), Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y.) and Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.), leading them to a first-place finish with a time of 4:30.17.

Also in sprints, junior Sydney McDonough (Alfred Station, N.Y.) placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.32, just one second shy of her team record time in the event.

Warner added a fourth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:03.06.

Daemen returns to action this Saturday, April 28 with the Buffalo Invitational which begins at 11 a.m. at UB Stadium in Amherst.
