Women's Track & Field 4/28/2018 5:47:00 PM Lea Sobieraski Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant Wildcat Women Fare Well At UB Invitational BUFFALO, N.Y. – For the third consecutive year, the Daemen College women's track and field team took part in the University at Buffalo Invitational, held today at UB Stadium just three short miles down the road. Junior Carrie Akin (Akron, N.Y.) put up an impressive performance on the field for the Wildcats today. Akin topped the field of participants in the triple jump with a record-breaking leap of 10.76 meters. She eclipsed the previous record of 10.59 meters set by teammate Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.) earlier this week at the Alfred State Invitational. Meyer finished third in the event with a jump of 10.11 meters. Daemen had several top-five finishes on the track. Juniors Sam Carro (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and Sydney McDonough (Alfred Station, N.Y.) each placed third in their respective events. In the 100 meter hurdles, Carro finished third with a time of 16.53 seconds, while McDonough ran a 1:01.47 in the 400 meter dash to place third. Tiffany Cycon (Lancaster, N.Y.) finished in the top five in both of her events. She placed fourth in the 100 meter dash after crossing the finish line in 12.75 seconds, and fifth out of 20 runners in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.62 seconds. Kyra Kress (Wayland, N.Y.) finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:10.53), and Brittany Denton (Oakfield, NY.) placed fifth out of 22 in the 1,500 meters (4:53.93). Additional highlights on the track include Savannah Warner's (Elma, N.Y.) sixth-place showing in the 800 meter race (2:25.140) and Amy Trabert's (Amherst, N.Y.) seventh-place finish in the 3,000 meter run (11:07.18). In field events, Taylor Haude (Rochester, N.Y.) continued her dominant sophomore season in the pole vault. She cleared 3.16 meters to finish third behind two Division I athletes from UB. Junior Rachel Roberson (Tonawanda, N.Y.) had a stellar showing in the long jump, leaping 4.58 meters to finish sixth. On top of her performance in the triple jump, Meyer added a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 4.55 meters. Hannah Miller (Seneca Falls, N.Y.) finished in the top 10 in both the hammer throw and shot put today. She placed fifth in the hammer with a throw of 35.98 meters and ninth in the shot put with a heave of 8.68 meters. The Wildcats wrap up the 2018 outdoor season on Friday, May 11 when they travel to Meadville, Pa. for the Allegheny Gator Invite.
