Wildcats Sweep ECC's Weekly Honors For Women's Cross Country

AMHERST, N.Y. - Sophomore Savannah Warner (Elma, N.Y.) and freshman Sarah Golas (Alden, N.Y.) of Daemen College women's cross country team have been honored by the East Coast Conference for their efforts at the season-opening Daniel Walker Invitational this past weekend.

Warner was named the ECC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, while Golas was selected as the ECC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week. The official announcement was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y.

Daemen placed three runners among the top nine finishers en route to a third place showing at the Daniel Walker Invitational. The 5K race took place at Beaver Island State Park and was hosted by Buffalo State College.

Warner placed third among the 46 runners with a time of 21:40. It marked the second-straight year she has placed third overall at this event. She becomes the first women's cross country runner from Daemen to earn ECC Runner of the Week honors since former greats Hannah Rice and Mackenzie Donahue did so during the 2015 season.

Golas registered a top-five finish in their collegiate debut, as she finished fifth with a time of 22:08. It marks the second-straight season that Daemen has produced a Rookie of the Week recipient in women's cross country. Former standout Tara Pede collected the honor twice last year.

Daemen is idle until Sept. 15 when it takes part in the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by the University of Rochester.
