Box Score

ERIE, Pa. - Senior Ben Andrews netted two goals and junior Alex Lee Yaw added a goal and an assist to lead nationally-ranked Gannon University to a 7-1 victory over Daemen College here tonight in a non-conference men's soccer match. Gannon, which was ranked first in the Atlantic Region and fourth nationally among NCAA Division II schools by the United Soccer Coaches last week, improved to 7-1-0 overall. Daemen dropped to 0-10-0 overall.

The teams were originally set to play on Sept. 11, but that game was suspended during the second half and later fully postponed due to a thunderstorm moving through Erie, Pa. Because the game had not yet reached the 70 minute mark, it was declared a no contest and the game was replayed from he beginning.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Andrews scored just 14 seconds into the contest, but Daemen evened the score at 1-1 after sophomore Pontus Lundin (Asmundtorp, Sweden) converted a penalty kick just 5:39 later. It marked the team-leading third goal of the year for Lundin—all of which have come as a result of a penalty kick.
  • The game remained 1-1 until midway through the first half when the Golden Knights took control with three goals in the span of six minutes. Andrews' second of the night at 28:26 capped the spurt.
  • Gannon later took a 5-1 lead after Lee Yaw netted his team-leading fifth goal of the year at 39:55. Daemen was charged with an "own goal" just 14 seconds after Lee Yaw's tally when a back pass from a Wildcat defender was misplayed by the Daemen net minder.
  • The lone goal of the second half came in the 55th minute when freshman Sergio Del Castillo scored his second of the year.
  • Sophomore Jarrett Lecceadone (Randolph, N.Y.) went the distance in goal for the Wildcats and made a career-high 11 saves—nine of which came in the first half.
