BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's track and field team opened its 2019 indoor season today by taking part in the Brockport Season Opener. The event was hosted by The College at Brockport. It marks the second-straight year Daemen has opened the season at an event hosted by Brockport.

Sophomore Ethan Majewski (Pendleton, N.Y.) highlighted the track portion with a first place showing in the 200 meter dash, while a school-record effort of sophomore Henry Moffitt (Sydney, Australia) in the high jump highlighted the field events for the Wildcats.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Majewski and junior Rodney Corbin (Buffalo, N.Y.) tuned in solid efforts during the sprint portion of the track events. Majewski recorded his first career first-place finish during an indoor event, as he topped the field during the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 22.97. He flirted with breaking Niko Jennison's team record of 22.84. Majewski and Corbin both turned in a top-five finish during the 60 meter dash. Majewski posted another personal-best time and placed third with a time of 7.09. Corbin placed fourth with a time of 7.15.
  • The mile run featured three Daemen newcomers and they all posted a top-10 finish. Freshman John Bruggman (Batavia, N.Y.) placed fifth with a time of 4:56.28, freshman Dominic Clementi (Barker, N.Y.) placed eighth with a time of 5:07.91 and redshirt freshman Maximillian Moslow (Williamsville, N.Y.) finished ninth with a time of 5:10.18.
  • Freshmen Aidan Van Slycke (Irving, N.Y.) and Alexander Reynolds (Olean, N.Y.) both made the transition from the cross country season. Van Slycke took part in the 5,000 meters and placed 14th with a time of 17:13.40, while Reynolds placed 11th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:52.68.
  • Bruggman and Clementi teamed up with sophomore Zach Brainard (Lancaster, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman Mason Storm (South Bristol, N.Y.) to run the 4x400 relay and they placed seventh out of 11 teams with a time of 3:51.99.
  • Moffitt, who shares the Daemen outdoor record (1.83 m) for the high jump, added the indoor record to his resume as he placed seventh at the event today with a leap of 1.76 meters. He eclipsed the previous record of 1.73 set three times previously—most recently by Zach Laird at the 2018 Brockport Golden Eagle Multi and Invitational. Moffitt and Brainard also took part in the long jump. Brainard placed 11th with a jump of 5.76 meters, while Moffitt placed 13th (5.65m).
  • Senior Sullivan Keller (Alden, N.Y.) turned in solid showings in both the weight throw and shot put. He placed fourth in the weight throw (14.16 m) and second in the shot put (14.30 m). It marks the 10th and 11th time over the past three seasons he has posted a top-five finish during an indoor event.
  • Moffitt and Brainard also took part in the triple jump and placed eighth (12.20) and ninth (11.52) respectively.
