Box Score

GREENBURG, Pa. - The Daemen College women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to host Seton Hill University in a non-conference match here today. With the loss Daemen falls to 0-4 on the year. It marked the 2019-20 season-opener for SHU, which posted a 7-10 record last year.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The host Griffins opened a 1-0 lead in the match after winning all three doubles matches. The outcome of doubles matches will award a single point to the team winning at least two of the three matchups, as opposed to awarding points for each individual doubles victory.
  • Daemen picked up its lone point in the match after freshman Lena Gruber (Munich, Germany) posted a 7-5, 6-4 win over junior Cameron Beer at No. 1 singles. It marked the first career singles win during a dual match for Gruber, who is now 2-4 overall in singles play this year.
  • Junior Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) suffered her second-straight three-set loss at No. 2 singles. Pitted against senior Kaelyn Zak, Stasiuk lost the first set 6-4, but battled back with a 6-2 win in the second set. Zak claimed the point with a 10-7 win in the third set.
  • SHU won the remaining singles matches in straight sets.
