STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's track and field team closed out its 2019-20 indoor season here tonight, competing at the East Coast Conference Championships held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The Wildcats finished seventh in the team standings out of nine teams, compiling 21 points. Georgian Court University accumulated 148.50 points to win the conference championship for the second-straight year—edging out Roberts Wesleyan College (135).

The Wildcats came away with one individual champion, as senior Sullivan Keller (Alden, N.Y.) claimed first place in the weight throw. Keller also posted a top-five finish in the shot put, while senior Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y.), sophomore Dan Fogle (Lockport, N.Y.) and freshmen John Bruggman (Batavia, N.Y.) and Aidan Van Slycke (Irving, N.Y.) also posted top-10 finishes tonight.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Keller capped an outstanding indoor season with his first-ever ECC individual title. He placed first out of 15 participants in the weight throw with a toss of 15.42 meters. He broke his own school record of 14.51, which he set just two weeks ago at the Brockport Multi. He out-distanced Andrew Saulpaugh of Queens College, who placed second with a toss of 15.31. Keller would also place fourth in the shot put for the second-straight year with a career-best throw of 14.81 meters. Keller has now placed first in an event three times this indoor season. He also placed first in the shot put at the RIT Invitational and also placed first in the shot put at the Highlander Invitational.
  • Fogle placed third in the pole vault for the second-straight year, as he cleared 3.20 meters—a personal best result for him.
  • Bodnar was one of three Daemen runners to compete in the 5,000 meters and he placed seventh out of 15 runners with a personal-best time of 17:02.26. Van Slycke and fellow rookie Alexander Reynolds (Olean, N.Y.) also took part in the 5,000 meters and placed 10th (17:24.27) and 14th (18:43.93) respectively.
  • Bruggman turned in a solid effort in the 800 meter run, as he placed second in his heat and sixth out of 19 runners overall with a personal-best time of 2:04.55.
  • Sprinter Rodney Corbin (Williamsville, N.Y.) competed in both he 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. He failed to qualify for the finals in the 60 meters after posting a time of 7.19 in the preliminary round. He went on to place 13th out of 40 runners in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.09.
  • Freshman Dominic Clementi (Barker, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman Mason Storm (South Bristol, N.Y.) both posted personal-best times in the 400 meters. Clementi placed 13th (56.04), while Storm finished 17th (1:03.03). 
  • Sophomore Zach Brainard (Lancaster, N.Y.) and freshman Clarence Denis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) both took part in the long jump. Brainard placed 16th (5.53 m), while Denis finished 18th with a personal-best leap of 5.43 meters. Brainard also placed 13th in the triple jump with a personal-best of 11.57 meters.

Daemen is idle until March 27 when it opens the outdoor season by taking part in the Buffalo Invitational hosted by the University at Buffalo.
