AMHERST, N.Y. - Redshirt junior center Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named the 2019-20 East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Awards for each of the 18 intercollegiate sports sponsored by the ECC were announced today from conference headquarters on Long Island as Sischo becomes the first men's basketball player from Daemen to be so lauded. Scholar-Athletes of the Year are selected by representatives from the ECC, and must have demonstrated both athletic and academic achievement.

It's another in a long string of awards for the Daemen star, several of which have been academic in nature. He was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team in February, and later earned Second Team Academic All-American honors (also from CoSIDA), becoming the first men's basketball player in Daemen's NCAA Division II era to do so. The State Capital Region native majors in Sport Management and carries a 3.40 grade point average.

On the hardwood, Sischo led Division II in total rebounds (362) and double-doubles (22) while averaging 24.9 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. He was named the ECC and East Region Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, and was also recognized with All-American honors from both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). Additional national recognition came from the Small College Basketball organization which named Sischo as one of 14 finalists for the coveted Bevo Francis Award presented annually to the best player from a non-NCAA Division I four-year institution.

Sischo's on-court prowess, which included Daemen and ECC records for points (773) and made field goals (298) in a season, and a Daemen single-game scoring record (47 points vs. Queens on March 4), led the Wildcats to a 24-8 record and a second consecutive NCAA tournament berth.

Already Daemen's all-time leader in made field goals (722), Sischo has cemented his place among Daemen's all-time greats as the only player in team history to total at least 1,800 points and 900 rebounds. In 89 games played, he's totaled 1,820 points (fourth all-time), 906 rebounds (fourth all-time), 356 made free throws (seventh all-time) and 88 blocked shots (seventh all-time). He's also posted 47 double-doubles and has led the Wildcats to a 70-22 record over the last three seasons.
