Women’s Track & Field Ties For 7th at UB Invitational

Several Athletes Post Personal Best Efforts

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's track and field team tied for seventh out of 14 schools at the University at Buffalo Invitational this afternoon. The event was held at UB Stadium on the UB North campus. The field consisted of six Division I programs, one Division II program (Daemen) and seven Division III programs.

It marked Daemen's first activity since March 24 when the Wildcats took part in the UB Mid-Week Invitational.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Freshman Haley Hinds (Blossvale, N.Y.) kicked off the day by taking part in the 3,000 meter steeplechase—marking the first time since the 2017 season that a Daemen runner took part in that event. Hinds was one of three entrants and placed third with a time of 12:57.77.
  • Freshman Alyssa Harrington (Tonawanda, N.Y.) took part in one track event and two field events today. She ran the 100 meters and placed 11th out of 16 runners with a personal-best time of 14.02. She also placed 12th in the long jump (4.28 meters) and seventh in the triple jump (9.91 meters).
  • Sophomore Natalie Menz (Lyndonville, N.Y.), senior Danielle Juby (Ilion, N.Y.) and redshirt junior Alexis Villarrubia (Rochester, N.Y) also saw action in both the track and field portions of today's event. Menz ran the 100 meter hurdles for the first time in her career and placed eighth out of 11 with a time of 18.15. She also completed in the javelin and posted a throw of 17.94 meters. Juby was the lone Daemen entrant in the 400 meter run and placed 17th (1:08.40). She also placed 17th in the long jump (4.10 meters). Villarrubia competed in the 200 meter run and the long jump, finishing 14th in the 200 (30:15) and 19th in the long jump (4.00 meters).
  • Freshmen Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) and McKenzie Hall (Hornell, N.Y.) and redshirt sophomore Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) all took part in both the 800 and 1,500 meter runs. Thomas was first among five Daemen runners in the 800 meters and placed 17th overall with a time of 2:35.51. Bailey placed 20th (2:38.73). Junior Amanda Bushway (East Aurora, N.Y.) finished 24th (2:42.51), while Hall finished 27th (2:44.37) and freshman Emma Grzebinski (West Seneca, N.Y.) placed 29th (2:50.07). Bailey and Thomas both posted personal-best times in the 1,500 meter run. Bailey was the top Daemen finisher in the 1,500 meters and placed 16th overall with a time of 5:12.07. Thomas placed 25th (5:18.20), while Hall finished 28th (5:32.86).
  • Junior Sarah Golas (Alden, N.Y.) came close to her personal best time in the 5,000 meters, as she placed 13th out of 26 runners with a time of 19:47.42. Her previous best time of 19:45.38 came during the 2020 ECC Indoor Championships.
  • Freshman Neissa Raymond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) improved her personal best time in the 200 meter run, as she placed 15th with a time of 30.66.
  • Senior Betty Jones (Camillus, N.Y.) took part in the shot put, hammer throw and discus. She placed 14th in the shot put (7.93 meters), seventh in the hammer (34.29 meters) and 14th in the discus (24.99 meters). Sophomore Skye Dorcely (Buffalo, N.Y.) placed 13th in the shot put (8.12 meters).
  • Freshman Paige Pavelski (East Aurora, N.Y.) made her collegiate debut today and placed 12th in the discus with a throw of 27.06 meters.
  • Freshman Sarah Adams (Batavia.N.Y.) finished second among Daemen entrants and 15th overall in the long jump with a personal best leap of 4.27 meters.
  • Daemen placed sixth out of nine teams in the 4x400 meter relay, as the team of Juby, Villarrubia, Raymond and Bushway posted a time of 4:39.11.

UP NEXT

The Wildcats will return to UB Stadium Friday (April 23) to take part in the UB Twilight Invitational. It will mark the final tune up for the Wildcats before they head to Rochester, N.Y. on May 1 to take part in the East Coast Conference Championships.
