NO SPECTATORS PERMITTED DUE TO COVID-19 - SEE D'YOUVILLE SPECTATOR POLICY Here's three things to know about upcoming matches for the Daemen women's tennis team... 1. The Daemen women's tennis team looks to shake off their first two losses of the season and return to the win column with three matches on the docket this weekend. After winning their first three matches to get off to the best start in the nine-year history of the program, the Wildcats suffered setbacks last weekend against Kutztown (4-3) and St. Thomas Aquinas (7-0). The Wildcats have been led this season by Frida Rubio, Christina Stasiuk and Mackenzie Schayes who have each posted 4-1 records in singles play. Teaming together in first doubles, Rubio and Stasiuk have gone 3-2, and Stasiuk recently became just the fourth player in program history to reach 60 combined singles and doubles victories in a career. 2. The Wildcats open this week's action by traveling to Edinboro. The Fighting Scots are members of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and have posted a 3-10 record so far this spring. They'll be looking to snap a two-match slide after suffering recent setbacks to Indiana (Pa.) (6-1) and Mercyhurst (5-2). Edinboro's roster includes just three returning players and is composed of three sophomores and five freshmen. Kaede Tada, a first-year college player from Japan, has made an immediate impact by posting an 11-2 singles record, all in the top position of Edinboro's lineup. She'll bring a nine-match singles winning streak into Friday's contest with Daemen. The Wildcats will be looking for the second straight win in the series which dates back to the program's inaugural season (2012-13). Edinboro won the first five meetings, but Daemen broke through with a 4-3 win in the teams' last meeting played February 15, 2019. 3. After meeting just once before this season, Daemen and D'Youville will play for the third and fourth times this spring. The Wildcats have blanked the Saints in all three lifetime meetings, including 7-0 finals on March 20 and April 9. The Saints, who are transitioning from NCAA Division III to Division II, are in their first season as members of the East Coast Conference. They return eight players from their 2019-20 team that finished 6-7 overall, but have found tough sledding so far this spring. The Saints have posted a 1-29 mark in singles matches and an 0-15 mark in doubles play. They are coming off back-to-back 7-0 losses at St. Thomas Aquinas last weekend. Saturday's match is a non-conference meeting, while Sunday's match counts as an ECC meeting - the teams' third of the season. Also, although Sunday's match is being played at Miller Tennis Center, it counts as D'Youville's home contest, therefore their spectator policy applies. Print Friendly Version
