Women's Tennis Closes Regular Season Tuesday Vs. STAC 4/26/2021 3:17:00 PM MATCH #9 DAEMEN WILDCATS (5-3, 3-1 ECC) vs. ST. THOMAS AQUINAS SPARTANS (8-1, 4-1 ECC) TUESDAY, APRIL 27 WILLIAMSVILLE SOUTH HS COURTS (WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y.) - 12 P.M. LIMITED SPECTATORS PERMITTED DUE TO COVID-19 - SEE DAEMEN SPECTATOR POLICY Here's three things to know about upcoming matches for the Daemen women's tennis team... 1. The Daemen women's tennis team looks to continue their winning ways Tuesday when they host St. Thomas Aquinas in their regular season finale. The Wildcats are coming off back-to-back wins over D'Youville this past weekend. The Wildcats picked up a 7-0 victory in a non-conference meeting Saturday, followed by a 6-1 win as the Wildcats and Saints returned to East Coast Conference play Sunday. In four matches against D'Youville this season, Daemen posted a 27-1 advantage. They'll face a stiff challenge in the form of the Spartans. STAC is the only opponent that has shutout the Wildcats this season, winning 7-0 when the teams met April 17 in Sparkill. 2. The Wildcats have gone 34-14 in singles matches and 17-7 in doubles matches this season. If the season ended today, their .708 winning percentages in both singles and doubles would shatter program records. They've been led by senior Christina Stasiuk and sophomore Mackenzie Schayes who are each 7-1 in singles play this season. Freshman Frida Rubio has chipped in with a 6-2 mark in both singles and doubles, playing almost exclusively at the top of the lineup. Stasiuk has totaled 13 combined singles/doubles wins this season - her most since posting 17 as a sophomore. She stands just one singles win shy of 40 and three overall wins shy of 70 for her career. 3. The Wildcats will be seeking their first-ever win in the series as the Spartans have won all eight meetings dating back to 2013. STAC returns five players from their 2019-20 team that went 11-7 overall and 3-2 in ECC play while advancing to the semifinal round of the conference tournament. Among the returners is sophomore Eliza Mulder. The Netherlands native earned All-ECC First Team honors as a freshman. STAC had a season-opening seven-match winning streak halted Saturday with a 4-3 loss to Queens, but the Spartans flipped the script the following day, knocking off Queens by a 4-3 final.
