ECC OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS — FULL RESULTS
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's track and field team placed second out of four teams at the 2021 East Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship held this afternoon on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.
The Wildcats totaled 119 points and placed second behind Roberts Wesleyan. The host Redhawks accumulated 332 points and claimed the team title for the sixth-straight year. St. Thomas Aquinas College (86 points) and Molloy College (43 points) also competed today.
Daemen's second place finish equals the team's best ever finish at the ECC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Wildcats also placed second in 2018.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Redshirt junior Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) was the lone Daemen runner to earn individual medalist honors today, as she placed first out of six entrants in the 5,000 meter run with a personal best time of 18:19.87. She led from start to finish and pulled away from Brittany Shumway of Roberts Wesleyan during the final lap. Shumway placed second with a time of 18:31.36. It was the fifth time in her career that Nolet has run the 5,000 meters (indoor and outdoor) and she bested her previous personal best time of 18:33.07 that she posted at the 2019 ECC Indoor Championships. Her time of 18:19.87 today was the best 5,000 meter time by a Daemen runner since Mackenzie Donahue posted a 17:15.80 during the 2017 ECC Outdoor Championships.
- Senior Betty Jones (Camillus, N.Y.) and freshman Paige Pavelski (East Aurora, N.Y.) earned individual medalist honors during the field events.
- Jones placed first out of seven entrants in the hammer throw with a toss of 35.27 meters. It marked her best effort in the hammer throw this season, and came just three meters shy of her personal best throw of 38.79 meters that earned her a fourth place showing at the 2019 ECC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Jones also took part in the shot put and discus today, placing sixth in the shot put (8.58 meters) and fifth in the discus (23.90 meters).
- Pavelski made her collegiate debut in the shot put and placed first out of nine competitors with a toss of 10.82 meters. She becomes the first Daemen thrower to post a score of 10 meters or better in the shot put since Toria Williams set the school-record (11.89 meters) and placed first in the shot put during the 2015 ECC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Pavelski also took part in the discus and placed fourth out of ninth entrants with a personal best toss of 27.73 meters.
- Sophomores Skye Dorcely (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Natalie Menz (Lyndonville, N.Y.) both took part in four events today. Dorcely competed in all four throwing events and posted personal best efforts in the shot put (9.26 meters), discus (15.23 meters) and hammer throw (33.22 meters). She also competed in the javelin for the first time in her career and posted a throw of 16.93 meters. Menz ran the 400 meter hurdles for the first time in her career and placed third out of four runners with a time of 1:22.98. She also placed third out of five runners in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.95. She capped the day by placing sixth in the long jump (4.29 meters) and fourth in the javelin (20.69 meters).
- Senior Danielle Juby (Ilion, N.Y.) and freshman Sarah Adams (Batavia, N.Y.) both posted top-five efforts in the long jump. Juby placed third (4.37 meters), while Adams finished fourth with a personal best leap of 4.35 meters.
- Junior Sarah Golas (Alden, N.Y.) ran the 10,000 meters for the first time in her career and placed second out of three runners with a time of 40:45.96.
- Junior Amanda Bushway (East Aurora, N.Y.) took part in both the 200 and 400 meter run. She finished third out of six runners in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 1:03.95. Her time of 29.09 in the 200 meters earned her a sixth place showing.
- Freshmen Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) ran the 1,500 meters and placed sixth out of 10 runners with a time of 5:15.55.
- Freshman Alyssa Harrington (Tonawanda, N.Y.) took part in both the long jump and triple jump, placing eighth in the long jump (4.13 meters) and second in the triple jump (9.98 meters). Redshirt junior Alexis Villarrubia (Rochester, N.Y) also took part in the long jump and placed seventh (4.26 meters).
- The Daemen relay teams placed second in the 4x100 meters and the 4x800 meters and fourth in the 4x400 meters.
