BACK IN ACTION
Daemen closes out the non-conference portion of its 2022 schedule when it hosts Slippery Rock of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Saturday (Oct. 22) afternoon. Daemen is 3-3-2 against non-conference teams this season.
LAST TIME OUT
Daemen and Lock Haven battled to a 1-1 draw this past Wednesday afternoon at Williamsville South High School. Much like this past Saturday against D'Youville when Daemen scored just nine seconds into the game, the Wildcats jumped out to an early lead again today when freshman
Cody Cavuoto (Rochester, N.Y.) scored his fourth goal of the year just two minutes into the contest. Senior
Derek Bartlo (Williamsville, N.Y.) set up the scoring chance. Bartlo out battled a LHU defender for a 50/50 ball in the right flank and sent the ball to the front of the LHU net where Cavuoto one-timed a shot into the net. The visiting Bald Eagles knotted the game at 1-1 in the 23rd minute when sophomore Samuel Hershey headed home a pass by classmate Duc Do. LHU posted a 9-5 advantage in shots in the first half and the teams entered halftime tied at 1-1. Daemen nearly regained the lead in the 72nd minute when a free kick from 35 yards out by junior
Nassim Zahouani (Saint Denis, France) was tipped just over the crossbar and out of play by LHU net minder Brady Freiwald. LHU's best chance at a game-winner came with six minutes to play when Hershey made a nice rush up field and fired a shot from 20 yards out that was kicked away by Daemen goalkeeper
Harry Firth (Reading, England). The Bald Eagles finished with a 16-10 advantage in total shots and an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Firth, who made just his second start in net this season, equaled his season-high for saves (7).
SENSATIONAL SENIOR
Senior Derek Bartlo has now registered a point in three-straight and six of the last seven games. He has totaled a team-high seven goals and 18 points. His seven goals and 18 points are the most by a Daemen player since Noah Keem put up nine goals and 22 points during the 2017 season.
ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Daemen's six goals in a recent 6-1 win over D'Youville tied the program record for most goals in a game during the program's NCAA Division II era (2015-present)..
GETTING DEFENSIVE
Daemen has limited 10 of its 14 opponents to one goal or less.
ON THE HORIZON
Daemen returns to East Coast Conference play Wednesday (10/26) when it travels to the College of Staten Island.
SCOUTING THE ROCK
Slippery Rock is the fourth PSAC school the Wildcats have played this season. The Rock snapped a six game winless streak following a 5-1 victory over California, Pa. this past Wednesday. SRU went 6-10-2 overall (3-7-0 PSAC) last year and was picked fourth in the 2022 PSAC West preseason coaches' poll. SRU has scored 19 goals so far this season. Sophomore Arturo Pla Hernandis has accounted for nearly half of the team's goals. He scored twice in the win over Cal Pa. and has totaled eight goals on the year. Additional offense has come from sophomore Shawn Spencer (4 gls, 1 ast) and junior Alex Plimmer (3 gls, 2 asts). Senior Hossam Aly has started 13 games in goal and owns a 1.87 goals against average and two solo shutouts. He made a season-high 12 saves in an early-season 3-0 loss to Shippensburg.
