A third place showing by graduate student Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) in the mile, a fourth place effort by freshman Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) in the 60 meter hurdles and a sixth place effort by graduate student Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) in the 3,000 meters highlighted the evening for the Wildcats. HIGHLIGHTS Nolet, who became the first Daemen student-athlete to earn East Coast Conference Runner of the Year in cross country this fall, placed third out of 21 runners in the mile with a personal best time of 5:15.65—eclipsing her previous best time of 15:17.19 that she posted at the Brockport Multi last February. Schultz earned a spot in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles after posting a time of 9.73 in the preliminary round. She would place fourth out of eight finalists with a time of 9.60 seconds. Both of the times she posted this evening were better than the 9.77 she posted in her collegiate debut last Friday at the Houghton December Classic. She also ran the 60-meter dash and placed 14th out of 22 entrants with a time of 8.33 seconds—exactly the same time she posted last week. Schultz capped her night by placing 14th out of 21 in the triple jump (9.94 meters). Thomas ran the 3,000 meters for the just the second time in her career and the first time at an indoor event. She placed sixth out of 21 runners with a time of 11:02.20—12 seconds faster than her previous best time (11:14.35) that took place during the outdoor season last season. Junior Emma Grzebinski (West Seneca, N.Y.) ran the 3,000 meters for the first in her career and placed eighth with a time of 11:19.75. Freshmen Kennedy Pino (Spencerport, N.Y.) and Hayley Pizur (Grand Island, N.Y.), who are both members of the Daemen cross country team, made their track & field debut tonight in the 3,000 meters. Pino posted a time of 12:47.10 and Pizur finished with a time of 13:04.09. Freshman Madeline Straub (Olean, N.Y.), another cross country team member, made her track & field debut in the 1,000 meters and placed 11th out of 25 runners with a time of 3:23.29. Freshmen Alexis Rodriguez (Willamson, N.Y.) and Grace Gominiak (Darien Center, N.Y.) represented the Wildcats in the 300-meter dash, while fellow rookie Alexis Nguyen (Grand Island, N.Y.) took part in the 500 meters. Rodriguez placed 18th out of 31 runners (46.67), while Gominiak placed 27th (50.32). Nguyen placed 16th in the 500 meters with a time of 1:31.38. Sophomore Elizabeth Bentley (Belmont, N.Y.) and freshman Samantha Kabel (Alexander, N.Y.) both took part in the shot put and weight throw. Bentley finished 37th out of 45 in the shot put (8.30 meters) and placed 21st out of 44 in the weight throw with a toss of 11.12 meters. Kabel finished 40th in the shot put (7.95 meters) and 30th in the weight throw (10.02 meters). Freshman Angelina Natale (Rochester, N.Y.) took part in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. She placed 11th in the high jump (1.42 meters), 29th in the long jump (4.29 meters) and 20th in the triple jump (9.57 meters). Daemen's 4x200 relay team of Schultz, Rodriguez, Nguyen and Gominiak placed seventh out of nine teams with a time of 1:59.76. UP NEXT The Wildcats will be idle until Jan. 21 when they head to Houghton University to take part in the Highlander Invitational.
