LAST TIME OUT Three first half goals propelled Daemen to a 3-0 victory over Chestnut Hill last Wednesday in Philadelphia, Pa. Daemen opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Graduate student Carlos España chipped the ball into the Chestnut Hill box, where it deflected off a CHC defender to Daemen striker Nassim Zahouani(Saint Denis, France). Zahouani sent a shot into the upper left corner of the CHC net from 15 yards out.nThe Wildcats doubled their lead 13 minutes later when freshman Cody Cavuoto (Rochester, N.Y.) netted his first career goal. Zahouani sent the ball towards the CHC goal from the right flank and Cavuoto deflected the ball past freshman net minder Stephen Connor from 10 yards out. Daemen took a 3-0 lead with just 4:14 left in the first half. España sent a pass to senior Chris Cox (Buffalo, N.Y.) on the right flank and Cox one-timed a pass to classmate Eman Wajed (Buffalo, N.Y.) in front of the CHC net. Wajed slipped a shot past Connor for his second goal of the year. Daemen out shot the Griffins 6-2 in the first half and the Wildcats finished with a 12-7 edge in shots overall and a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Graduate student Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain) went the distance in goal for Daemen and stopped five shots en route to his first shutout of the year. LERMA ESCOBAR NAMED ECC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Daemen goalkeeper Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain) was named the East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played Sept. 19 through Sept. 25. He becomes the second Daemen men's soccer player to be selected ECC Defensive Player of the Week this season, joining fellow goalkeeper Harry Firth (Reading, Englans) who collected the honor on Sept. 6. It also marks the third time this season that a Daemen men's soccer player has earned an ECC weekly honor. Freshman forward Riccardo Boscolo Bachetto (Chioggia, Italy) was named ECC Rookie of the Week after scoring two goals, including the game-winner, in a season-opening win over Saint Michael's College. Lerma Escobar led the Wildcats to a win in their only game last week, as he turned away all five shots he faced in a 3-0 non-conference win at Chestnut Hill. It was the first solo shutout of the season for Lerma Escobar, who has started six of Daemen's seven games and is averaging 4.5 saves per game. He ranks second among the ECC leaders in fewest goals allowed (7) and fourth in goals against average (1.17). In addition, junior midfielder Nassim Zahouani (Saint Denis, France) was named to the ECC weekly honor roll. He scored the game-winning goal and also added an assist in the win over Chestnut Hill. SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE Daemen enters Wednesday's contest ranked first among ECC in fewest goals allowed (8), while Roberts Wesleyan ranks second in most goals scored (23). Daemen has limited six of its first seven opponents to one goal or less. ON THE HORIZON Daemen returns to conference play Saturday (Oct. 1) when it travels to St. Thomas Aquinas. SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS Roberts had a three game winning streak snapped and fell to 5-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the ECC following a 1-0 loss to regionally-ranked Queens this past Saturday. The Redhawks have posted league wins over District of Columbia (2-1) and D'Youville (3-0) and played St. Thomas Aquinas to a 5-5 draw. RWU was picked fifth in the 2022 ECC preseason poll. The Redhawks rank second among ECC teams in total goals scored (23) and goals per game (2.30). Junior Tamas Nagy has registered at least one point in four of the last five games and is tied for the ECC lead in total points with 17 (6 gls, 5 asts). He scored twice in the tie with STAC and also netted two goals in the win over D'Youville. Senior Dylan Ruiz, a first team All-ECC pick last year and this year's ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, is tied with Nagy for the team lead in goals (6) and has totaled 15 points. Senior Jared Gibbons has played every minute in goal this season and owns a 1.40 goals against average and three solo shutouts. ALL-TIME SERIES: DAEMEN VS.
