AMHERST, N.Y. – Dana Bacher (Hamburg, N,.Y.) of the Daemen University women's lacrosse team has been honored by the East Coast Conference for her play last week. Bacher was selected the ECC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week. The announcement of award winners was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon. It marks the second time this season that Bacher has earned the honor, as she was also selected after the Wildcats to a season opening win over Lake Erie College. 2023 is the inaugural season for Daemen women's lacrosse.

Daemen went 1-1 last week, suffering a loss at nationally-ranked Le Moyne College and posting a thrilling 14-13 win over Gannon University at Medaille Sports Complex yesterday. The win over Gannon marked the first home win for Daemen in program history. Daemen scored off a free position goal by sophomore Camryn Day (Hamburg, N.Y.) with just 2.1 seconds left in regulation.

Bacher scored a team-high five goals and also picked up her first career assist in the win over Gannon. it marked the second five-goal effort of the year for Bacher, who also scored five times during the win over Lake Erie. She also led the team in shots (11) and added a ground ball and two caused turnovers in the win over Gannon. She has started all five games for Daemen this season and has scored a team-high 11 goals. She also ranks second on the team in points (12) and total shots (23) and third in draw controls (9). Bacher is a junior academically, but since she never played in a collegiate game prior to this season she qualifies as a first-year player and is thus eligible for rookie of the week honors. She was a four year member of the girl's lacrosse team at Hamburg High School.

Daemen is 2-3 on the year and returns to action Wednesday (March 15) when the Wildcats play at Alfred University.
