AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's track and field team placed second out of seven teams at the University at Buffalo Spring Opener held Saturday at UB Stadium.

The meet featured Division I, II and III programs from throughout the area. UB totaled 191 points and placed first, following by Daemen (152), Niagara University (90), Canisius College (83), Buffalo State University (48), D'Youville University (21) and Hilbert College (19).

Graduate student Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ontario) placed second and posted a school-record time in the 3,000 meters. Junior Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) and freshman Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) placed in the top five in the 3,000 meters, while graduate student Hannah Thomas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) finished fifth in the 800 meters. Freshman Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) posted a fourth-place effort in the 100-meter hurdles. In the field portion, sophomore Alyssa Amirato (Depew, N.Y.) placed sixth in the long jump and first in the triple jump, while sophomore Elizabeth Bentley (Belmont, N.Y.) place third in the hammer throw and freshman Samantha Kabel (Alexander, N.Y.) finished fourth in the discus.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Nolet was one of eight Daemen runners to take part in the 3,000 meters. She placed second out of 19 overall with a program-record time of 10:18.78—which eclipsed the previous standard of 10:25.62 set by her current teammate Marcy Colca (Getzville, N.Y.) at this event last year. Nolet now owns three of the top six fastest times in the 3,000 meters in program history.
  • Bailey and Oberholzer finished fourth and fifth respectively in the 3,000 meters. Bailey posted a personal best time of 10:44.92—eclipsing her previous best time of 10:49.59 she posted at this event last year. Her time ranks as the seventh fastest time in program history. Oberholzer ran the 3,000 meters for the first time at an outdoor event and posted a personal best time of 10:50.53.
  • Senior Courtney Merrill (Speedway, N.Y.) also posted a top-10 effort in the 3,000 meters, placing eighth with a time of 11:04.50.
  • Thomas placed fifth out of 17 runners in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.65, which ranks as the 10thfastest time in program history. Thomas also ran the 3,000 and placed 11th with a time of 11:08.94. 
  • Junior Emma Grzebinski (West Seneca, N.Y.) posted a top-10 finish in the 800 meters (2:31.60) and posted a personal best time of 12:30.14 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, which ranks as the third best time in program history.
  • Freshman Grace Gominiak (CCC) took part in 200- and 400-meter dash and placed 12th (29.80 seconds) and 10th (10:08.42) respectively.
  • Sophomore Emma Cain (Lockport, N.Y.) posted a top-10 effort in the 1,500 meters, as she placed eighth with a time of 5:18.96.
  • Schultz and fellow freshman Alexis Rodriguez (Williamson, N.Y.) both took part in the 100-meter hurdles. Schultz placed fourth with a time of 16.11 seconds, which ranks as the sixth fastest outdoor time in program history. Rodriguez placed sixth with a personal best time of 16.98. Rodriguez also ran the 400-meter hurdles for the first time and placed fifth with a time of 1:13.48.
  • Amirato, who owns the indoor and outdoor school record for the long jump, placed sixth out 10 entrants in the event with a leap of 5.02 meters—which ties for the second best effort in program history. Amirato would also compete in the triple jump yesterday and she placed first out of three entrants with a leap of 10.67 meters, which ranks as her second-best effort all time at an outdoor event and the fourth best result in program history.
  • Bentley and Kabel (Alexander, N.Y.) both took part in the shot put, discus, hammer throw and javelin. Bentley placed third out of 11 entrants in the hammer throw with a personal best toss of 38.58 meters—which ranks as the seventh best effort in program history. She also placed eighth in the shot put (9.01 meters), fifth in the discus (24.52 meters) and fourth in the javelin (22.65 meters). Kabel posted a personal best effort in three of the four events. She placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 30.82, which ranks as the seventh best effort in program history. She also placed ninth in the shot put (8.15 meters), sixth in the hammer throw (31.73 meters) and second in the javelin (24.20 meters).
  • Daemen's 4x100 relay team of Rodriguez, Gominiak, freshman Angelina Natale (Rochester, N.Y.) and Schultz placed second out of two teams with a time of 56:87.

The Wildcats return to action next Saturday (April 15) when they take part in Brockport Outdoor Multi on the campus of SUNY Brockport.
