ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen University women's track and field team closed out its 2023 outdoor season today by placing third out of seven teams at the 2023 East Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The event was hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University.

Roberts Wesleyan posted 160 points to claim its eighth-straight title. The University of the District of Columbia (148) placed second, followed by Daemen (118), Molloy University (83), Queens College (59), St. Thomas Aquinas College (55) and the College of Staten Island (25).

First place finishes by graduate student Tima Abdellatif (Grand Island, N.Y.) in the hammer throw and sophomore Alyssa Amirato (Depew, N.Y.) in the triple jump highlighted the day for Daemen. Daemen's 4x800-meter relay team also posted a first-place effort.

Runner-up showings were also posted by junior Camryn Bailey (Geneva, N.Y.) in the 5,000 meters, freshman Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) in the 10,000 meters, junior Emma Grzebinski (West Seneca, N.Y.) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and freshman Alexis Nguyen (Grand Island, N.Y.) in the pole vault.

 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Abdellatif kicked off the day by placing first out of 14 entrants in the hammer throw with a program-record toss of 41.18 meters—eclipsing the previous standard of 40.86 meters posted by Betty Jones at last year's ECC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
  • Amirato capped off a solid sophomore season by placing first out of seven entrants in the triple jump with a leap of 10.72 meters. It ranks as the fifth best effort in program history. Amirato, who placed second in the triple jump at last year's ECC Championships, owns the school-record (10.98 meters) in the event and six of the top-10 efforts in program history. Amirato also took part in the long jump and placed seventh with a leap of 4.76 meters.
