AMHERST, N.Y. -- Juan Alvarez (Puebla, Mexico) and Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Columbia) of the Daemen University men's tennis team have earned 2025 Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators (CSC), recognizing their combined achievements on the court and in the classroom.

To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be a starter of important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, and they must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility with at least one full calendar year completed at his/her current institution. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.

Juan Alvarez: Sr, Puebla, Mexico -- Alvarez put together an outstanding final season as a Wildcat in 2024-25, leading all Daemen players in wins on the year with 16 combined victories across singles and doubles play. Appearing in 19 of Daemen's 20 matches this season, the senior was the only player to finish with double-digit singles wins, earning a team-high 10 victories across No. 1 and No. 2 singles on the court, going 8-8 at top singles and 2-0 in No. 2 singles play. In doubles action, Alvarez finished with a team-high six wins at No. 1 doubles play. He posted four wins at top doubles with junior Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.), his partner for the majority of the year, and added one win each with sophomores Lucas Garcia and Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) this season. A graduating senior and two-time CSC All-District honoree, Alvarez closes out his two-year Daemen career with 16 singles wins and 11 doubles victories. Alvarez is graduating Daemen with a bachelors of science degree in Business Administration.

Lucas Garcia, So, Bogota, Columbia -- Garcia earns his first CSC Academic All-District award after stepping into a larger role for his sophomore campaign. Playing multiple matches this season across No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles and also making a No. 1 singles debut, Garcia finishes the 2024-25 season with five singles wins -- two at both second and third singles and one win at top singles -- good for third on the team. He also totaled a team-high six doubles wins this year, earning four victories at No. 2 doubles. Three of his four doubles wins came in the fall with fellow sophomore Lasse Mergens. Garcia added two wins at top doubles this year, once with Alvarez and once with junior Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands). Garcia is majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management.
