EDINBORO, Pa. -- The Daemen University women's cross country team finished sixth of 11 teams at the season-opening Doug Watts Open meet on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats finished with 178 total team points. Slippery Rock University placed all five scoring runners in the top 15, including three in the top-10, and won the meet with a team score of 39. Edinboro University (52 points), Bloomsburg University (57), East Stroudsburg University (115), and D'Youville University (172) finished ahead of the Wildcats.
Senior
Patsy Oberholzer (Greece, N.Y.) led the Wildcats for the first time in her career, placing 19th out of 113 runners with a 5K time of 19:30.3. Sophomore
Lia Brasacchio (Victor, N.Y.) finished second on the team and 43rd overall with a time of 20:25.6.
Senior
Madeline Straub (Olean, N.Y.) posted a time of 20:48.6 to place third on the team and 49th overall. Senior
Christa Oates (Tonawanda, N.Y.) finished 51st with a time of 20:49.7, and sophomore
Kylie Piekarski (Lancaster, N.Y.) rounded out the scorers with a time of 20:50.7 to place 53rd.
- Senior Hayley Pizur (Grand Island, N.Y.) finished 64th overall with a time of 21:13.4.
- Running in her first collegiate race, freshman Grace Tag (Buffalo, N.Y.) placed 98th with a time of 23:10.4.
Daemen will be off for the next two weeks but resumes the season on Sept. 27 in Rochester, N.Y. at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan University on the Matt St. James Cross Country Course.
